@@nathanielnorthrup got 158 eng 164 math. Ended up retaking and got the eng up to 160 but math went down. Most colleges from my understanding will take best of both scores. So 160 eng 164 math. Idk if thats the story youre lookin for but thats what happened. The thing that always messed me up is when theyd ask if theres a number between 2 and 3. Which of course there is but based on their graph there wasnt. So got a lot of math wrong because i never knew if they counted fractions/decimals on varying questions. Good luck.

1)Take the easy test first- high scorers tend to skip difficult questions, and do the easy questions first. This method helps gather easy point- all questions are worth the same points! 2. Don’t do math- use logic and reasoning to avoid math or minimize the math. E.g. find patterns to decipher the problems in order to find easy equations to use. E.g. In comparison questions, estimate instead of finding exact numbers, this helps to minimize math and time. 3. Learn from mistakes- when practicing, instead of seeing math errors as frustrating, and leaving it, see it as an opportunity to learn and increase your potential points on the actual test by learning from mistakes

I took the GRE the day before yesterday. My math concept is fair enough for GRE(of course more than too). But I stuck to some of questions and trying to solve them in the normal way. My suggestion is if time is going down and try to solve it by any means don't waste too much time on it. ETS will never know if you are using advanced concepts or other ways. Even some problems can be solved without doing the math
@MagooshGRE

Yes, I agree! It is extremely important to know when to just guess and move on. And plenty of tough problems can be solved with creative calculator use or plugging in values or using logic or something that doesn't involve the actual math!

Thank you for this video! I will be taking the GRE early September. I was recommended to you by a friend. Is 3 months good enough for practice to at least get a 150 score?
@MagooshGRE
@MagooshGRE 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Astro! 3 months is a good time period, many of our students choose to study for that long. So yes, I think that is a good amount of time! Of course, every student is different. So some students don't study at all and get a perfect score. Others study for many more months. So what score you get depends on a lot of factors, and you may need more or less time to achieve your goals! Thanks for stopping by, we're glad to have you :)

So, is the mock test on ETS really easy? Or is more close to the actual test? I scored 160 on it, and that was enough to boost my confidence. Wonder if this confidence is misplaced. Can you please let me know?
@MagooshGRE
@MagooshGRE 3 жыл бұрын
The mock test on ETS is very accurate, not too easy at all! It is a very close replica of the actual test. That doesn't mean you're guaranteed to score 160 on test day, but the reason for any score variance will not be the material, that is, the content on the test.

Can you suggest me material because I am stuck on 155 in Quant and 145 in verbal and have 15 days to go for the exam.
@MagooshGRE
@MagooshGRE 3 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! First of all is the Official Guide, which is basically mandatory. You should milk all of the official ETS resources that you can. Then I would recommend Magoosh, which is valuable in many ways! After that the Manhattan books would probably be my last suggestion. I would say these are the three most important! You got this :)

I am a law major and applying to US universities through the fulbright scholarship. Typically law schools in the US don't require GRE for an LLM. But the fulbright app does require GRE. So I have to take it just so my scholarship application is considered. I am generally very bad at Math. Like really bad. I cannot stress this more. I said goodbye to it after High School. It is my worst nightmare. My brain just doesn't have a Math section. How much do you think my GRE quant score is going to matter? Would they at least look at the fact that I am a law major? And maybe excuse a bad math score?
@MagooshGRE
@MagooshGRE 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It's tough to say just how much your math score is going to count for or against you. You can always ask the scholarship directors yourself and see what they have to say :) My guess would be that your overall application is much more important than just your GRE score, so while your quant score will matter, you can definitely overcome a poor quant score with a strong application. That said, GRE quant was also designed for people who haven't been taking math classes, so it is more logic and problem solving based. I think you can do it!

LOL, Fulbright would only want you to take the GRE just as a formality. I don't know where you're from, but once Fulbright accepts you then you only have to care about the TOEFL.
