This video was a great reminder of writing skills I had long forgotten and a little something new for me. I found the comparison to driving and writing helpful. I tend to be an unorganized writer, especially when under a time constraint.

what to do if one has writers block in the middle of the test and limited time
@Ashlyee6 жыл бұрын
The most important things to do in that situation are to try your best, move on, and don't let that distract you from the rest of the test. If that is a major concern, you can start practicing now. The essay topics are on the ETS website.

What are examples of key words? The first thing I think about as a "key word" is the name of a company, or a specific statistic/number stated in the prompt. Is that a close assumption?

Oh no, no spell check on the GRE? I have terrible spelling and have relied on spell check my whole life! Also, how long should the answers be? I took a practice test and felt that I could answer the prompt with about 150 words effectively but some people are saying you need a 500 word response?!

Hi great information. When we type our essay on the computer, are we able to see how many words we have typed? Thanks!
@Ashlyee6 жыл бұрын
Hi Harsh, thanks for the kind words. No, unfortunately there isn't a word count. But when we it's important that we complete the essays on our practice tests so we can naturally get a feel for how long our essays tend to be. Does that help? Also, I'd love to know what video topics you would find valuable. 😀

I am kind of wondering whether I should retake since I have a 164 verbal and 169 quant but 3.0 AWA. Kind of depressing because next time I take won't have enough time for preparation...
@Ashlyee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Yunseok, I think it depends on the kind of program you're interested in and your ability to reproduce your quant/verbal results and improve your essay score. If your program requires a lot of writing, the essay score could raise a red flag. Overall, I think it's best to ask admissions from a program that you are targeting. Is that helpful?
@aaroldaaroldson7085 жыл бұрын
Nice video, and you are gorgeous :) Btw, do I need to really focus on Analytical Writing If I want to apply for MSc Computer Science degree? Or It is better to concentrate on quant. and verbal sections? The thing is I have only slightly more than 1 month to prepare :(
@Ashlyee5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It really depends on your school and your background. Your quant/verbal score is definitely most prominent (schools usually don't post average AWA scores on the class profile), but if English is not a student's first language, they will likely want to make sure there AWA score does not raise doubts.
@aaroldaaroldson7085 жыл бұрын

@Ashlyee6 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Just to clarify: the essays are still a part of the general GRE (with verbal and quantitative), they are just scored separately. You get your verbal/quant immediately and you get your score for your essays a few days later.

@@Ashlyee ohh all right that's fine by me. Could I get some insight into how to learn all these new words that I come across everyday because being from an Indian background the English part comes across as really difficult.
@Ashlyee6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I share a lot of resources on my Verbal FAQ video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp7Edq2iibmGg7M). I also recommend practicing trying to figure out the words without using a translator first and then look up the words to test your understanding. This will help you prepare for the test.

I am not a native English speaker, however I can speak fluently and have the ability to hold a conversation with a native speaker. I find reading the passages and sentences very troubling. I have never read any story books or anything that was not my text book while growing up. Also the medium of education I received up to high school was in my native language. I have registered for the GRE and my test is 2 months from now. I am sure I can ace the Quant section if I practice everyday, but I just don't have the same confidence about the Verbal section. That is because I am not seeing a lot of improvements. Yes, it is true that I am much better than what I was on day one, but the problem is that my progress has been in a stalemate for way too long. The ones I am able to understand, I almost get it right but make small mistakes, which gives me no points. There are also endless sentences which I can't comprehend due to the sheer complexity of the sentence structure and the frequency of difficult words. Got any tips for me? Thanks for the great content. SUBSCRIBED!!!
