In this video I show how to scrap a very large transformer.
It turned out to be an aluminum transformer, so I show how much money it was worth as is then I show how much money it’s worth after scrapping it.

I'm shocked your yard pays so little for shred but pays prepared for the steel inside the transformers. I get shred for the steel either way. Thats why I stick with just the electric motors price. But that is also why i try and get the transformers when I can since $2.20 is better than $.60. As always - thanks of sharing.

I'm a hobby scrapper. I break down all these. But I do it in bulk saved up transformers. I can make between 22 and 32 dollars per hour. including medium sized from microwaves. I do it when there is nothing else to do, so it would be down time where I make nothing at all. Usually watching Bill Oriely. After my wife goes to bed. I put the paper covered windings into a 5 gallon bucket of water with a capful of purple stuff grease cleaner for at least 48 hours, sometimes for as long as two weeks if I get busy with other stuff. The paper just rubs off.
