We have been getting some big shirt orders lately for screen print (60+, about to get a 300+). Using water-based ink, how would I keep my screen from clogging up due to the ink drying? We were spraying a little water on the flood every few shirts but that only buys time. Eventually the screen clogs. Thanks!

Been using water based ink. I’ve gone through a couple of stencils. I tape off any areas I don’t want printed. As I wash out the ink, the emulsion will come off. I’ve tried using a multi purpose screen cleaner. I’ve done just water as well. I’ll also print one color. Wash out. Fan dry. Then another color. Thinking this might be the cause.

Hi Mike ! Do you really need a force air dryer? Is the air blowing in to the shirt or is extracting the moisture out? I have a regular dryer
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Hi iovanniLR! You do need some sort of means to extract the moisture. Some screen printers use a fan to blow through the conveyor tunnel. The most common way to do so is with a forced air drier. They do however have an accelerator that works with a regular drier, so that may be something to look into. I hope this helps.

I'm just a beganer, how many kinds of color those can use for screen printing, where can we buy them? another question is what ink you use for printer to print artwort/design by film?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Hi Zaw. You can use, and make as many colors as you would like. Even mix up custom colors, and Pantone colors. What will limit you is how many colors your press has (ie 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14). Most beginners will have a press 1-6 colors. You can even get creative with printing more colors that your press has heads on it, if the graphic is small enough. Check out our video on printing 7 colors with 4 screens. I use an all black system on with my 1430 and I use waterproof ink jet film. Try catspitscreenprintsupply.com and use promo code "MikeyDesigns" or you can go to amazon and get film there as well. amzn.to/2u70bi4

Does the water base ink hold up as good as plastisols ink after months of washing on a darker garment

Water based inks hold up very well. Dark inks on light garments basically dye the ink.
@georgeesparza46306 жыл бұрын
And how about white ink on a black shirt how does that hold up
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Just as well as plastisol. Many shirts on the market are water based white on black. Water based inks are just a little bit more of a process. You have to keep your screen's image area flooded, you can't leave the inks out or they'll dry up, and you have to use forced air or some sort of air circulation to help evaporate the moisture from the ink when curing.

Mikey Designs & Silk Screen Thanks! So if you were planning on reusing the stencil after the water washout at the end, would you still just spray it out like you did with a hose, or be more gentle and possibly sponge the ink off? I assume that with the water resistant emulsion and maybe some post hardening, the stencil should be tough enough to handle the hose?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
I would definitely clean it. If you don't the ink will dry up in the screen. When you go to reuse it, it'll be an issue with the dried ink mixing with the new good ink. Waterbased emulsion will hold up to the hose. We actually wash our screens out with a power washer. The emulsion holds up really well.

Be sure to keep the image flooded with ink when printing water based inks. Put plenty of ink in there. You can also use a spray bottle of water to mist it to keep it wet.
