This is the fourth sculling video I've watched this evening, and the only one that actually demonstrates the motion of the oar so I can understand how it works in the water. The other three show that the person knows how to scull with a single oar, but beyond that, there isn't much to learn. Amateur productions with poor audio, reflections off the water, and in one case, captions that fill the screen. This video does the job, and thank you. The person from Tennessee, whining about how horrible this video is, is clearly in the wrong room. Thanks again.

I do not rotate the oar at each end of the stroke like this but through out the stroke so half way the blade is horizontal and at each side it’s “tending towards the vertical. Making an arc with the pressure all through towards the center of the circle that that arc is a part of. 😅

Excellent demo! Do you sell plans? I'm going to need a 13 footer, take-apart.

Note, two methods of sculling. The traditional, shown here. And the A-D technique. Where there is one leading edge. Better for faster sculling.

Any advice on how long the oar should be? I have an 18ft open sailing boat (Drascombe Lugger), it has a socket on the starboard side of the transom which is 20 in above the waterline. I would expect to stand at the stern end of the cockpit which is about 5 ft forward of the transom. Thank you

can you make an sculling ore to go backwords ?. and i do mean from the stern where you are standing in the cocpit, not going forword of the boat. Gerard. Qld Australia

you might try "Sculling over the Stern" on the "practicalboatowner" channel of KZbin. Man sculling is Guy Fawkles.

You can reverse the forward pattern. It works, just not as cleanly as going forward, at least for me.
@Abrupt_Edge5 ай бұрын
Yes you can. As stated it is not as clean. I might add two details- 1st it is much slower. But it does work and can be very handy to know how to execute in certain situations. 2nd- It will take some practice and concentration to do it. Once you have mastered forward and turning motions you brain won't want to let you do the learned motions incorrectly. However, as above, it's the same motion, just in reverse. With your thumb rotated down instead of pushing the oar away from you you would instead be pulling it towards you.

How do I order one?

So basically, it's like a single blade propeller.
