Fantastic video. I’ve been looking for ideas on figures to sculpt to teach my 4 year old great nephew. I’m a sculptor but not good at teaching. The simplicity of this was exciting. Thank you so much. New subscriber.

I wanted to make figurines to add to my IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE Christmas train village. They cost a fortune online. Thanks SO much. I will be able to make all I need and turn the extra houses that aren't WONDERFUL LIFE into ones that fit. I can't wait to sculpt CLARENCE the Angel. God bless you. Really looking forward to this!

I used as a first learner some air dry clay and it came out so sticky like glue I had to use so much water to get it off my fingers it all got too wet. I noticed the clay you had was so kneadable without being sticky i.e. I tried an 8" figurine of a lady in beautiful dress and a parasol and it was ridiculous it just collapsed. So I will try to find the Marblex online.

Yes, Marblex Self-Hardening Clay is a really nice clay to work with and it is fairly economical and a good clay for all kinds of projects as well as larger projects like your 8 inch figurine. Another clay that is good to work with is Sculpey 3 polymer clay. I like to use it for smaller projects as it tends to be more expensive than self-hardening clay. However, Sculpey 3 is a fantastic clay because when baked in a household oven, it becomes very hard like plastic and is pretty much permanent. Conserve clay by making an aluminum foil core in larger projects. I hope this helps and if you have any questions, please just let me know. Thanks so much for your comment. - Jacob.

I don't have polymer clay and my clay keeps cracking, what do I do?
@TheJakefolger9 жыл бұрын
+legofanguyvid - Thanks for your comment. You can score (scratch with a sharp tool or knife) the surfaces of pieces of clay to be joined. If the clay you are using is water based, you can touch a bit of water to both scored surfaces before joining the pieces. And also with water based clay, you can mix a bit of "mud" and use it like a glue in addition to scoring both surfaces to be joined. When you join these surfaces, twist the parts while pressing the pieces together. And then blend those parts together with a tool or better yet, your fingers. All sculptures made with all different kinds of clay in addition to polymer clay will hold together much better if your score all parts before joining them to other parts. Water based clay is less likely to crack when drying if you do as I suggest here AND slow down the drying time by covering the piece loosely with plastic. If I can help again, please let me know.
