Nice! I love it. I have started building with styrene also. Tool and bit holders, car stands and such with the thick stuff. Great vid for more ideas. This is why I have stayed in this hobby for 35 yrs. People like yourself.

Great vid! FYI: You can often get 2x3 or 2x4 sheets of Styrene from plastics shops in .02, .04, and .06 for way cheaper than the Evergreen. Sometimes you can get luck at hobby shops and get old model sprues for cheap or free. They're Styrene as well (usually) And if anyone is into really going DIY, look up vid's from folks that do "Trash Bashing". It's making models, etc out of garbage plastic. Tons of good info on cutting, shaping, flame tempering, and gluing.

Thank you as an Australian I have been confused by many Americans talking of styrene. It is now clear to me that the product is called Polystyrene on the packaging , something sold in my local hobby store. Thanks again.

Maybe try solid rod styrene if it's going out running. I bet you could stick some copper house wire in the tube, before bending to give it a bit more strength.
@Lets_RC3 ай бұрын
@@wingnutbert9685 good idea man.
@wingnutbert96853 ай бұрын
@@Lets_RCHappy to help if I can. And if you want a solid square type shape, you can laminate strips of thin sheet and sand it to size. And for a multi bend shape, like maybe a old school style bumper, cut the thin sheet strips a bit oversize. Cut a block of wood to the curve you want. Remove the thickness of the glued up strips from one side of cut block. Clamp all your strips in between these blocks with the strip edges out enough to apply cement to. (wax the block faces so glue doesn't stick). Then hand sand to final shape. Basically the same method used for wood laminate bow making and bent plywood furniture. Just really small scale! LOL! The two block parts just need to match up so the clamping is even. Could try facing the block surfaces with some thin foam rubber to help make up for gaps in the block surfaces.

Styrene is plastic and you could also use a cheap soldering gun to melt and weld parts together rather than glue.
@wingnutbert96853 ай бұрын
The glue chemically melts the plastic. Almost making the two parts like one. Way cleaner looking and simple. And you can use MEK and a little syringe. Dirt cheap and dries super fast. 👍

Can’t you also use some thick soldering wire Edit: just realized that metal wire would mess up the centre of gravity and would probably be expensive
