How to seam seal panel pulls

Mine leaked after following these instructions. I did the other side as well and that stopped the water from leaking through the tarp.

I love my mountainfly I hate the sealer thick junk and looks look like crap. I ended up using gear aid +sil and did the outside threading on pullouts and ridge line. Use an oral syringe to apply the gear aid It soaks in to the threading and forms a nice seal. It worked so well i used the syringe and sealed the inside top of the Ridgeline seam where stitching could still be seen. May have been overboard but I figured if I am sealing stitching I might as well get it all. My inside pullouts look like junk with their supplied sealant.

I'm sure doing this can work, but pitching the tarp taut, and sealing with a foam brush and (mineral spirits) diluted silicone caulk is easy and leaves a much cleaner appearance.

Why should the customer have to do the extra work that the company should have already done? Its a tarp, shouldn't the company selling it make sure the thing doesn't leak?

Brandon, what about sealing a tarp that has the additional items accommodating the internal pole mod? there are three extra pieces that you sew into the ridgeline that completely wetted out in a rain storm for me last weekend. There's the pole hook/thread attached by small webbing in the center, and two little rings attached to webbing closer to the ends of the ridgeilne. There's no clear way on how these should be seam sealed and rain soaked through where you stitch these into the tarp, completely wetting out my hammock and TQ in those three places - saturated.

Sorry about that David, we’ve been using those tabs on the cloudburst for years and normally that is not an issue. You could dab a tiny amount of sealer on the outside of the tarp, just on the stitch where the underside attachments are

Does anyone know if you have to seam seal the ridge line on the WB tarps? Everything I’ve seen just refers to the pull outs

Why is this not done by the manufacturer? Why is it left to the customer? Is this something that won’t last, that needs to be periodically reapplied?

Sorry for the inconvenience. You should only have to apply the sealer one time. We are unable to seam seal every tarp here in shop because there are certain ventilation requirements for dealing with silicone application in a work environment not to mention space for hang drying etc.

No reason to pay this much for tarps if company can't seam seal it from the factory. I know another well known company that does that for about the same price on their tarps.

Does it bother anyone else that Warbonnet has a logo of a Native American with a Native American head dress and it's owned by a white man? I bought an underquilt from this company and when I saw the logo I had to send it back and they charged me a 20% restocking fee but I could not stomach the cultural appropriation by this company.

I really can't understand people that go on and on about cult ural. It's not done in a mocking way. It is not done in a way to slander the culture. It is not done in a way the demeans the culture. And it is not done in a way to attack the culture. It is simply a cool looking design. That is it, nothing more nothing less. Most people of different cultures who people like yourself want to claim others are culturally appropriating are generally happy that people Express an interest in their culture.
