The ACOF 2024 Cooking Competition brings a new Camp Oven into my collection - time to get seasoning. Thanks Mate for another wonderful lesson on the care of our Camp Ovens. See you in October.

Great series of restoration videos. 👍 Kmart / Coles / Woolies / Spotlight etc have refillable oil sprayers. Work well and way more cost effective and you can add your preferred oil type.

Yeah thats a good idea actually.

Just tried this with a new supposedly pre-seasoned camp oven on a gas BBQ - Wow!!! bottom of the pot is now like glass. Can't wait to start cooking in it 👍
@campovenking3 ай бұрын
Yeah mate, the pre seasoned thing is designed to stop it rusting before it sells and leaves the shop. After that they couldnt care less. You shouild always season a new one and ignore the preseason coat. Cheers

Some really good tips there Ron. I saw one vid that said to go to 480f for an hour, then turn the oven off and repeat it the following day fo four days. Seemed a little to involved for my liking but seemed to work.
@campovenking3 ай бұрын
lol, I reckon that would just burn off the oil completely if you actually did it that way. I can do an oven an hour and with my new electrolysis set up I can go from rusty to fully seasoned in 6 hours

Hey Ron, You see a lot of people sanding the inside of there cast iron smooth with sand paper before seasoning. Is there any advantage to that as far as a slicker surface after seasoning? And does it help with the non stick surface for cooking on? Great series of videos on restoration and seasoning.

Hi Ron, I have a 15 inch and an18 inch to do, unfortunately I don’t have an oven big enough, can you do the seasoning in the open over a fire ? Cheers Peter
@campovenking3 ай бұрын
All my ovens were done over the fire years ago. A hot fire and mutton fat actually. I will do one on a video later in the year when I get a chance. Cheers

450 celcius is the target temperature
@Philipk653 ай бұрын
@@campovenking 450 Celsius? I think you mean Fahrenheit. Very few ovens go to that Ron. Most kitchen ovens max out at 250c which is 482f
@campovenking3 ай бұрын
@Philipk65 I meant celcius and always thought it was. Now I'm not so sure lol. I will check on the oven. 250 c doesn't sound hot enough as you can cook food at that temp.
@Philipk653 ай бұрын
@@campovenking I did 250c on my Weber and I felt that through the welding gloves. By the way 480f is 250c.

@@campovenking I do believe that pizza ovens can get near that hot though.
