I just want to say big thanks to you Romney, a month a go I watched your channel and purchased a couple of your Udemy courses and it re-ignited my interest in Amazon KDP. As a result I now have 2 books on KDP (soon to be 3) that are selling (26 in 3.5 weeks, even though they are in competitive markets). It really has given me the momentum to keep going and I have 2 more I am working on. All of which are in the coloring, journal space (something I hadnt considered before watching your channel/courses). After losing my job this has been the perfect focus to bring to life what I hope is my new self-publishing business. Hi Bonnie, unless you're a well known author with a large audience to build anticipation for the release of your next children's book, get it published when you can. Just ensure to give it the energy required to market and advertise.

Im a current children's author selling on KDP but unfortunately if you want to make a kids book, IT MUST be 75 pages or more to qualify for HARD COVER and many younger kids books are not that last so its frustrating!

Yes, that’s why I publish the hardcover on Ingram and then link the books up so they appear under the same listing on KDP.

Yes, I purchased the ISBN via Bowker.com. As I own the ISBN I can then upload to whatever platform I like.

Thanks for viewing my video. This video should assist you re: Illustrations kzbin.info/www/bejne/roPJl3WwnciKp5o I previously use platforms like Freelancer and Fiveer to find illustrators and had them sign a contract that ensured I had ownership of the illustrations. Only use reputable illustrators when creating your books.

When you publish on all platforms should you publish under a new isbn or use the same one from kdp

You can use the same ISBN but it must be 'exactly' the same book. You can't use an ISBN for different kinds or even formats of books. eg, paperback version and hardback version.

So I need a course not how to publish but how to strategically market my children's books. I feel lost with ads and with the legalities with cross publishing at other places and whats the best strategy for that. Do you do any social media promotion? 🤔 I just created my first children's book inspired by my art students about color theory. I have made a bundle with a "coloring book" thats more extensive than that however I am not comfortable sharing more than that at this time. 😅 I know my book will be adored by children because my students LOVE them. ❤ I have made 200 sales in the first month just in the us but now im starting to fizzle out and I am now playing with adspace trying to navigate how it all works. All tips help (hard cover ingram to amazon was huge ty) I am just curious did you have to open an fba account ? Do you have a video tutorial for that? So many questions 😅

Not specifically a course on that as the key to my long term sales has been Amazon Ads. I’ve run a few FB Ads in the past. Hit and miss.

Romney, I have written a non-fiction book for adults in 2018 that is on Amazon. I have been teaching online ESL here in Thailand for a few years now. I started writing a children's book with them a couple of years ago. I decided to write a second in the series that I have roughly done. The first of the series should be ready to publish this month. My fear is to do this all wrong. It's a great series, kids and adults like it. To Thai people, it is 6-60 years age appropriate. Wherever their English is. To Australia, US, UK, it may be 6-12 or so. Before I make a wrong decision I need to know a lot about the industry. I am retired so teaching a little online and writing is all I have. What would be your advice for me at this time?

It's hard to provide guidance and advice with just that info. I'd suggest taking another course from someone you know and trust that can bring you up to speed with the best methods to publish and launch your next book.

How did you get that squared format for your children's book in hard-cover KDP? I can only see 5 different sizes, all vertical. Not squared nor horizontal, which are much more adequate for children's books. It's absurd.

Purchased an ISBN, loaded the book (8.5 x 8.5) to IngramSpark and then the book paired up on Amazon as a Hardback option for purchase.

Generating books from AI is all very new. You need to tread with caution using AI.

You can use free tools to start but one of the critical factors is letting customers know your book exists! I had a starting budget of $200. It all depends on how much you want this to work? Scrimp and save what you can to invest in the right tools and you will be further ahead than most people!

Unfortunatley it's not going to stop. I agree, I love the authenticity of designers doing this rather than AI however, I think you will need to somehow embrace the change of people using AI otherwise you will be left behind. My voice alone will not stop the advancements of AI design but you can market your services in a way that compels people to continue to use your services and creative talents.

How are you doing your illustrations? On a computer, using Illustrator or something? That put Illustrators out of work. I'm older, graphic design background. We learned to do illustrations on illustration board with gouache, Prismacolor pencils, and inks. We adapted, as did people before us and people since us. You will adapt, move to another career or retire. It has always been thus in the world. BTW, there are still people making a living doing by hand calligraphy. There is still a market for luxury hand crafted versions of things. Most people won't and don't care. So, perhaps figure out how you can incorporate AI into your business model instead of being all doom and gloom about it. Innovate. You're creative, you can do it.

@@renel7303 I don’t use procreate, I illustrate children’s books working primarily with acrylic and or india ink. But why would a publisher or author pay me for my illustrations when they can generate their own, endless illustrations free of cost using AI. You accuse me of being “doom and gloom” but I challenge you to list me one solid good reason why AI illustrations taking the place of human illustrations is a positive thing for human authenticity and creativity. You can’t and from the sound of it, authenticity isn’t something you’re concerned with anyway. I’ve already felt the ripples in my industry and it’s not a positive thing.

Your books will also be on other marketplaces but you need to set up Amazon Ads and run campaigns in those other marketplaces if you wish to sell books there.
