Well, I think this is your best episode yet. I watched the first bit and was thinking "Where is the offline reference footage". You have raised the bar so high, that us mere mortals will have to work a lot harder to come anywhere near your tutorials. My only advice ( and you knew this was coming ) is that for the work I have done in the past, rarely do I have to do the whole thing like you have done here. But I do understand that a lot of people will be doing just that. In a lot of cases, I have had ametaur editors that have done the Premiere part of this puzzle and I have had to make screencasts and type out what I needed on their end. So my advice is to take this video and cut a version for your subs to link to Premiere editors, showing what is required to make things easier. They might not watch a whole end to end video if they aren't interested in the steps in Resolve. But I know that it would have been a great resource for me in the past to link to a video ( like yours ) showing the steps that you have here to get the prep that would make the whole thing smoother from the get go. I had to do the same with Final Cut Pro as well. It seemed that the xml from FCP had media offline because the xml had absolute paths to all the media. It was the way the client had it set up. Luckily I have FCP and figured it out on my end - Then as I mentioned with the Premiere hobbyist export, I had to do a step by step for FCP as well. Anyway, this video is really well thought out and executed. I envy your abilities in presentation of the information. Another great job. Now take a break for a few days and relax. -Cheers.

Thanks Jim. OK, good point re. a short version of what to do in Premiere for Resolve. Thanks for that. I'll look into it. Thanks for kind words....I spend most of the time planning the content and order and best way to deliver the message - recording it from there is pretty straight forward. Regards take a break...would be nice but back in a client attend grade tomorrow. The shop is busy! Cheers again Jim.

small addition to the offline reference. Once imported and linked with the timeline you can hit Ctrl + W to toggle the reference in the timeline viewer. By default it's set to a horizontal wipe, but it's always great to check resizes, dissolves and retime effects in difference mode. Note that video compression (of the ref file) will have a subtile effect on that, but in gerenal you can guarantee the best results by checking in difference mode. also a side note on ref files. Sometimes with certain codecs or mismatches, the timecode can get mixed up, therefore timeline and ref file won't be in sync. To fix this, go to your ref files Clip Attributes and fix the clip timecode.

@Darren - Was a great tutorial to look back on and reference. Great solution for dealing with the frame size issues. I was wondering if you could shed some light on how do you handle a sequence like this, with different frame rates? And, just to add - some of these frame rate issues aren't the issue but rather the Speed changes that have been made on a clip. For example, taking a 60FPS clip and making it play back 200% (or twice as fast), to effectively get the clips to play closer to realtime. I'm doing this often enough that I am hoping there is a magic bullet solution. Otherwise it looks like half of the grading for this project will be done more on an individual level, vs importing a whole timeline. Thanks!
@DarrenMostyn2 ай бұрын
Frame rates are not so much of an issue. Just note that ramped speed will struggle to match and so you could 'bake' your clip in Premiere first

Hi Darren, thank you for your great video! What would be the best approach if the client wants to make adjustments at a later stage in Premiere Pro? For instance, if the full video has already been graded and delivered, but the client requests changes that need to be made in Premiere first and then finalized again in DaVinci. Thanks in advance!

simply re-export the XML from Premiere. Or if it is very simple changes, ask for just the changes and send them back for re-insetr into the edit.

Hi Darren, the Set of Frame Size doesn't seem to work well when you switch the timeline in Resolve from HD back to UHD, since it keeps all the UHD images with a 0.5 size in the inspector. How do you get around this? Do I have to resize everything manually to fit a UHD timeline? I tried all the scaling options but I always get a half size image in a UHD timeline...Scale to Frame size seems to work better if you're editing in HD but are aiming to finish in UHD. Any ideas?

Hey Darren, Great video and content throughout. Thank you. But I wonder if you could help me. However having created my XML and importing in into Davinci, I have a lot of Media Offline problems. Most of these are adjustment layer files, as I used this to grade my project in PPro, and also graphics and credit reel. I'm assuming that I will have to re-grade all the clips and also add the graphics etc, in Davinci ?
