Ryan from 2MinuteTennis.net shows you 5 tips to serve 100mph.

1. Hold the racket with your heel pad slightly off

2. Feel so loose that your arms are like cooked spaghetti

3. Practice knocking off a birthday hat

4. Begin your knee bend as you toss and explode the legs as you knock odd the birthday hat

5. Tuck your tossing arm against your body as you hit the ball

Not kidding. Not bragging. I served 120 back in the late 70’s. I used a head competition racquet that was my dad’s. While in a group lesson at Tam Tennis Club in the northern burbs of Chicago there was a young girl practicing with her coach on the next court. While we took a break Our coach (Bob Maramba sp?) was talking with her coach. I was shocked when he motioned for me to come over. He turned to the young girl and told her if she could consistently return my serve then she’d be able to handle any woman’s serve she faced. I spend the next half hour or so playing against her. I remember so clearly that It was like hitting against a wall. She returned everything I could give her. Her name was Andrea Yeager. That’s my tennis brush with greatness! True story. Another observation, Ryan’s service style looks EXACTLY like mine did. It’s like looking at a video of myself. I only wish I had some video of myself back in the day. Unfortunately, no one in my family was much of a photographer or videographer. Fun to watch!

Ryan, you are great. In so many serve videos you are able to add some additional elements. Today the loose movement and the knee banding were great and are so important. In addition I like the imporance of the coiling at the beginning. It was wonderful that you compraed it with the start of a forehand. I think this is so important as it directs the ball throwing and everything else. I noticed that before the coiling you make yourself loose as well by doing small relaxing things. I like this. By the way I finally got 10 birthday caps today---my wife couldn´t believe it until I showed her your video(s)...:-), Oliver from Germany

This is the best freaking serve video I have seen yet, thank you so much Ryan! I’m already excited to get back out on the court. My waiter’s tray has been fixed with a more over head ball toss (as opposed to out to the right), and the birthday hat technique! I love the way you explained the snap, and the overall looseness of your body and arm. I’m still a bit guilty there lol. Thank you for your wonderful videos, cheers!

I'm really suprised, I've seen and been told a lot about service techniques but I never had this approach before and I've been struggling with my serve. Excellent lesson. I’m a 4.0 and have always struggled with my serve it seems. Have had many pros look at it but no one has figured out the problem. My legs and upper body was always disjointed. But that little tip about extending legs as racquet is about to pass over my head was the key (for me at least). Just played with this in mind and I was bombing my serve. Thank you so much!

alright this is EXACTLY what I needed no one has ever told me to be relaxed I got the instructions from my coach and kinda did my own thing, but once I worked on being relaxed and loose everything changed my serves were more consistent, faster and just in general felt way better and I didn't spend as much energy and above all that as a coach myself I give lessons to kids I am definitely going to use the birthday hat method not only will it give them a better serve after all, but also a great motivation/fun tool thanks for this amazing video I learned a lot from it not only for my own game and that says a lot. Have a good one and stay safe and never stop playing!

Very good video. I knew about the movement of the left hand towards the body - which looks a bit counterintuitive at first - but you are the only one who explained the reason why it is done (slowing down the body to enhance the whipping effect). Now that I know what it is for, I am more likely to implement the tip. Thanks a lot Ryan!

Growing up I was blessed with what my coaches (from other sports) would refer to as having great sporting biomechanics, being able to play any sport that involved hitting something, and I had this amazing knack of just being able to copy the movements of my favourite tennis players around Sampras, Agassi era. I taught myself how to hit every tennis stroke (including serving like in this vid) just by simply watching Sampras play on television lol. I'm 36 now and sadly I could never breakdown the skill and explain how to teach it to my children so using this amazing breakdown of all the different movements involved with the serve will definitely help teaching my younger ones, love the birthday hat idea! Thank you!!!!

Great tips and presentation!!Can’t wait to try it today, PS as I have a higher toss and I contact the ball a short after it’s starting to fall (I see that your contact is earlier...the ball still goes upwards )...probably I’ll have to stay at the knee bending (trophy position) a little more before beginning the upwards motion....I’ll try to record myself!

His techniques are really amazing. Took a week to master it but now I won't feel much exhaustion. It's really relaxing and effective technique
