Very well explained Coach Simon! The way you teach it, step by step and in depth, really makes the serve so much easier to understand. For me, I was struggling a lot with my supination and pronation, and this lesson really helped. Thanks heaps, and keep up the great work!

what do you think about tsitsipas serve with his abbreviated swing? is it optimal for shoulder/elbow/wrist health long term

It seems to work well for him. Only time will tell if it’s a safe motion, remember, most experts predicted when Rafa was 18/19 that he would have to retire by 25 due to the physicality of his game. Nobody knows how a body will hold up, and nobody knows how hard a player is working off court to maintain their body. Djokovic for example was putting in 9-10 hours of work during training weeks a few years back. I don’t know if that’s still the case, but wouldn’t be surprised

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Thanks Simon. Im currently using his style of motion , have been for the last year and a bit but i never felt like it had a flow and rhytm. I tried your service motion today at squad training and had a coach video it and he said I need to improve the rhytm timing but I have a great serve potential. Hopefully in 3 months It will be at a place where its solid.

Hi Simon and thanks a lot for your tips, always clear and easy-to-understand; i think a great plus of your tutorial is that you can explain easily both for amateurs but also for semi-pros. Another important feature that many teachers do not implement, is that anyone has his own personal swing from toss moment to power position stance. Many want to force you to their swing but I think is a waste of time because I realized how the flow is important in such a complex motion as Serve is. In December i trained on my own finding the correct power from legs and a fluency of motion and I improved a lot, then I had to stop and the most difficult issue is to recover such fluency skills. Cheers from Francesco (Italy) PS. Also easy to understand speaking, so welcome for not mother tongue like me!

Thanks for the video. Will try to apply what you shared. I have noticed that the majority of the players toss the ball with the arm let’s say parallel to the line of serve (extending the arm through the center of body line) while others extend the left arm while tossing into the center of the court (if you draw a line between shoulders, the arm extends following that line). Is there any reason for that? Even when you shared the end up position with the left arm pointing to sky and right arm with L shaped angle you moved the arm like a “dancer” stretching both arms to contrary sided, but when tossing the ball on serves you tossed through the inside until reaching to that point. Would appreciate anyone participating and answering 😀

Great video! Like with most serve videos, I do miss a part on the stance and when to turn your body to the ball. Seems beginners (like me) often try to turn their body too quickly and pronate too early. This issue caused me to lose a lot of power and accuracy

Hi Simon I’m sure I’ve seen you serve in other videos with an abbreviated motion/ I keep changing my motion because my coach doesn’t like the shorter set up but I like the look of your serve when you get into the power position quickly without dropping the racket-the abbreviated swing you call it. I’ve seen lots of good serves with an abbreviated swing so why do I get told not to do it?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Жыл бұрын
I don’t know why you’re being told to have the full swing, that’s a question to ask your coach. But here is my reasoning for why I changed personally: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qna1dId7bpZ4p6M

Thank you a lot Simon! since I follow you I started to upgrade my service. Serve is such a stroke that needs to be developed over the years. whenever I add some new ingredients for a while it causes a disaster. When the transition is complete it pays off though! I'm 45 years old, my serve speed can rich 200 km/h. My concern is that, over the age to maintain it. I'm already worried about to decline in physical terms of serving. What would you recommend to keep it up and to maintain as you get aged? Thanks again!!!✨
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Keep working on the flexibility and explosive power from the body and you should maintain most of it. The common thing that occurs is we play less as we get older and the body stiffens up and loses that elasticity which is so vital for tennis
