Hi, this video shows the servicing of a 2007 Ford Ka 1.3L. We are not mechanics but like to try and do our own servicing. In the video we change the oil and oil filter, the cabin (pollen) filter, the air filter and the spark plugs.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs/servicing. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to do the processes.
Many thanks, Vince.

@Yuri Bezerra Sousa The 1.3 Duratec sold in Europe is a good engine. I have a 1.3 Duratec Ford Ka and it's a good first car. It's good on fuel, reasonably comfortable, quite spacious for how small it is (I'm 183cm tall and I fit easily) and it's very fun to drive.

I love the vw (Mann filters ) ad they have the 21 or 22 mm nut on the end where you can use just a spanner or a socket. Recently serviced my polo . Did a master service and the auto gearbox too. I love watching and doing stuff with cars so loved this one. I worked on one of these engines before and can't say I particularly enjoyed it. Some areas a bit tight for my big grubby mits.

Great video. That KA is very lucky to have been looked after so well by you. The only thing I would’ve done differently is to fill the oil to the max mark, so that if the owner doesn’t check the levels very often if at all then less damage is likely to be done if the level drops.

The speed you were doing that tells me you have serviced that car a few times, those little ka engines are good runners not much to go wrong and so easy to work on the 1.6 not so much very cramped in the bay. Great video

Excellent and clear explanatory video of a basic Ford Ka service, thereby saving money without it being done by a garage or dealer. (Note that as mentioned, for a Ka of this age (2007) the market value would now be fairly low.)

Hey vince great vid as usual just a little advice allways make sure you fill the engine oil to the full mark not saying it will happen but if your car develops an oil leak by filling to the full mark you give youself a little more oil that could save the engine. From damage.

For the cabin filter lid: you could use some gardening wire (flower wire) and wrap it around the up standing parts of the lid and the broken hinge and twiddle the ends tight. This should seal it up right enough.

Nice little video, but being a Tech myself I could really pick holes in a lot, but as a simple how to video, fantastic. Two things I will add, the O ring for the sump plug. As you wasn't replacing it, you could have just took it out and flipped it up the other way. So the reverse side would then mate with the sump. Lastly, I would have checked the gap in them spark plugs. It may say pre gapped which is great at face value, but you just don't know the journey that plug has had since being boxed to your hand. Even the seemingly slight knock can close up the electrode gap. It takes seconds just to double check. Once again, great little video, you've gained another subscriber. Keep em coming.

Bummer about those retaining clips breaking off. When I used to service my own car, many moons ago, I used a spare piece of rubber hose that fitted snugly over the ceramic insulator of the spark plug so I could screw them in finger tight, using the piece of hose as an extension. It gave a bit more feedback than using a spark-plug tool and was dirt cheap.

Regarding brake fluid, you should also take a look at fluid itself, not just the level. Over time the fluid accumulate humidity, it can evaporate and leave a "gap" on the brake pedal, risking your security. Normally the new fluid is kind of transparent and over time it will get darker and dirty. You can also buy a tester too check the "life" of the fluid. It's recommended to change brake fluid every couple of years. These same principles also apply to the water cooling and power steering fluid, which overtime lose their properties.

Only watching for the support. Personally I believe you shouldn't have your license if you can't do basic maintenance. I'm not saying that you have to do it for your self Everytime but you should know how. And wow, no love for the car at all? Cheapest parts and oil possible. Just asking for problems especially the oil filter. What ever works for you I guess. I like my cars to last, but that's because I can't buy a new car every 3 years. Your gear selector gaiter looks very wet from the shot underneath, new rules can class that as a minor fail for the mot. I would have done a bit of a flush by adding some wynns engine flush (other brands out there) and followed on by a seafoam decoke with a dash of seafoam in the new engine oil. (best method would be to remove plugs, fill cylinders with a bit of seafoam, plug lightly holes for plugs and let it set for an hour then spin it round and the manky seafoam stuff will spit out onto the cloth.) Molyslip is also very good for these CVH variant engines making the rattley valvegear nice and quiet :)

Just wanted to add a note but you're better off using white lithium grease to battery terminals as you're mixing dissimilar metals by using copper grease and that can lead to corrosion of the terminals or the leads especially if you have aluminium ones. Only learnt this by mistake when the terminals on my old mitsubishi colt would no longer clamp tight and was told it was the grease I was using so I switched to white lithium grease. Which can also be used for door hinges and boot locks and so on
