WHAT WAS THAT! In the past 5 services ive never, EVER seen an engineer do anything as extensive as this. Comes along. Pops a new nozzle on, checks for condensate, checks with a digital efficiency meter... Done. Takes no time at all. When our RD3 packed in, I managed to get it going again using a bit of mechanical common sense. This was a superb video. A real eye opener.

Just done my 1st 2 oil boiler services as a registered engineer and customer said the same " the last guy never stripped the boiler down" The 1st Took me 4 hours! The baffles were scaled and stuck and needed a angle grinder with a wire wheel to clean them.

Fantastic video, a total masterclass in servicing. I thought I was thorough but you’re on a different level entirely. So much to learn still. Loved the tips on not overtightening main door and smelling the coil for oil etc. What did you say you used the clean the springs was it sugar soap I just usually wash them in hot water with wire brush. Absolutely brilliant keep the videos coming. Any chance you could do a video on a firebird service as we’ve a lot of them over here.

Thank you for creating such a comprehensive and informative video. I live in a remote part of Cambs and, like many others, do not have a gas supply and have to depend on oil. If the latest government plans to ban oil boilers are passed, I imagine I will not be the only person to stockpile spare parts and keep my oil boiler operational for the foreseeable future. Thanks to your video, I now feel much more confident that I can do this myself in the event that oil boiler engineers disappear of the face of the Earth.

Hi thanks for sharing your knowledge with us ,ive a grant boiler external and its not firing up ,i had it serviced 2 years back but i dont think the guy knew grant boilers well. He went thru everything putting a new motor on plus pipes cleaned baffles but still had problems firing up from in the house you had to do it manually turned out to be the capacitor which was the cheapest bit in the end he shud of started there logically ,anyway it started doing it again so im gonna change it ,just needed to see what you were doing ,mines not exactly like that i think the capacitor is outside the boiler mechanism in the wiring loom somewhere ,so will check it out this week and just replace .i think that will do it fingers crossed .ive liked and subd so your one more up now . As someone else suggested, you'd make a good hands-on trainer... Really good video, yes maybe a bit OCD in parts nevertheless a jewel of a lesson for any up and coming techies. I've a similar model Grant with identical burner but am in the west of Ireland so we don't get any of your types around these parts hence although !'m no oil engineer I have to try and tackle problems myself as they arise. Your comment near the end about doing the air setting only when boilers at full temp was really interesting and mine is a nightmare for gathering soot so I'll have to check that. Thanks again for all the tips.. 👍 ps - shame about the speedy 'know it all' poster, clearly a car-crash waiting to happen! 🤣

Best video I've ever seen on a Grant Boiler!! Brilliant!! ..... I wish you had serviced mine as I've just paid out a monkey and this guy never did half of what you did on this video! .... Tell me something, when you jetted water into the holes, where does all the water go? My boiler is in doors not out doors. Also at the moment our heating is working great but the water is playing fun and games, one minute it's hot then goes cold, ... Lights up on the boiler as normal, only other issue was the ''overheat'' light came on. From what I've read it's a blockage, is that right? What would you recommend for the blockage as I'm now on a budget after paying out a monkey and it's still not right. Thanks, and thanks for the video.
@BartonOilBurnerServices

Thanks for the amazing comment!!. When you wash the boiler out it goes through the condense and down the drain. As for the hot water, The heat exchanger has most likely scaled up. They dont usually unblock so you end up changing them. Thats the most common cause. Hope this helps.

Thank you for informative videos. Recently qualified and was never told about capacitors. After watching your videos i had the correct van stock (spark electrodes, hoses, filters, nozzles etc) new multimeter that can test capacitors and my 1st 2 boilers had readings of around 1.5uf when they should of been 4.5uf and 4uf. Paperwork seems to take me forever and im not sure if im going over board when i see reports from previous engineers with doctors handwriting " new nozzle" scribbled accross the boxes. Regards from the yorkshire/lancashire boarder.

Anybody who has their boiler serviced by you is a lucky customer, quality tradesmen are few n far between nowadays. As I was saying just before Top Class Video, now I serviced a condenser boiler last week but I did "try" get the spiral s in the Tubulars spotless clean as the video tutorial recommended (this was a little used oil boiler but never serviced at 6 yrs old) and the hardened grease like stain on them was near impossible to get shing except after 2 hrs of scrubbing which is way to long to be doing on them ? It was like the hot dishwater had no effect on them, or a stronger detergent was needed, or their fine once you get the loose grease off never mind deep stains?) I guess thats where the experienced pro uses their savy? Was I just over cleaning...Thanks James
@BartonOilBurnerServices

Hi. If the boiler has not been serviced for that long you will struggle to clean them totally unless you spend longer on it. If it has been so long the customer should have an extra labour charge for your extra time. Normally they clean in 10 mins or so. Hope this helps.

I thought the test point are on the cleaning door on grant because of to much moisture getting into the analyser and do you not do a smoke test before using analyser.
@BartonOilBurnerServices
@BartonOilBurnerServices Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. A smoke test is done pre-condense, on the door, or the paper would get wet, and a check is also done using the analyser pre-condense to get a reading, and then post condense. However, the exit after the condense is the most accurate point. Make sure the analyser is higher than the probe, and flick water out of probe line afterwards. You only get a true reading efficiently after the condense as the temperature is lower. Not all condense boilers have a test port in the door. We didn't show everything in the video, and other stuff is also missing, hence why we say to get your boiler serviced by an OFTEC registered engineer. There are some things we have to keep secret 🤣Well done though for also doing this, it's good to hear you're on it also 👍

Thanks for the comment. The burner on an oil boiler has an oil pump to pressurised the oil to go through the nozzle to vaporise it which is then ignited, where as gas is just available on tap as it were to ignite it. Apart from that the basic boilers do the same thing. We do only however do gas so i could be slightly wrong!!!!!🤣

Why would you both doing all this? I just change the nozzle and analyse the boiler and never get problems or callbacks.

@fonzoo my customers love me because significantly undercut all the other local engineers, yet I still make more profit than them, most days I do 10 services a day and make £700, home in time for countdown aswell.

@ryanbutler3375 Doesn't take a genius to remove a combustion door and hoover out some baffles, and I could teach a monkey to clean a oil filter. I just don't have time for that boring shit and my customers love me for being quick and cheap.

After 30 years of doing oil service, cast iron is the only way to go. I would never service one of these tanks. It looks like a nightmare on steroids. Im all good sticking with my American trash.
