Excellent video Alex. Exactly what I was needing. I just got an Omega quartz Seamaster f300 where the date wheel won't turn each night but it can be adjusted very easily. I read that this is an extreamly common issue on this model where the teeth on the wheel are plastic and wear out. Apparently there is a German manufacturer that makes replacements wheel with Steel teeth that solves this issue. Thanks again.

I'm really grateful for your videos and also became a patron. I'm fairly new to watchmaking but in this video lubricanting the date wheel didn't feel right. Are you sure to lubricate something that is never part of the cleaning process?
@watchrepairtutorials Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your support Peer. I would clean the teeth of the date wheel off with a little IPA and a Q-tip and that’s about it. As you know you don’t wanna clean the date will in any kind of machine, but it still needs to be clean, right. Date wheels off and pick up residual oil from the movement so you don’t want to put that into a freshly cleaned movement that you’re servicing. Plastic parts don’t get lubricated, but many date wheels have metal teeth that interact with the date jumper, which is also metal so anytime you have metal on metal friction do you want a small amount of lubrication. The key here is a small amount of lubrication.
@peerhauser Жыл бұрын

I loved this video . I do have a question though. On the ETA 2789 movements with quick set, I can get the day and date to change by advancing the hands, and it changes perfectly at midnight, but if I advance the hands and stop at 11:55pm, the watch will run past midnight and nothing will happen. Is there some point in time where the mechanism needs to start from in order to change the calendar organically?

Hi Alex, Could you possibly help me. One of my watches has the winder, a button underneath that, and a button over the winder. The top button changes the date. However, now it's stopped working. Ive opened the watch and noticed when you press the date button, it presses a small lever. This lever stays down (in) when pressed. Does this mean that the spring ? (if it has one) has either broken or come off. Being brand new to watch repairs, I don't want to mess with things until I have a bit more knowledge. Could you possibly help. Thanks in advance. Martin (UK)
@watchrepairtutorials24 күн бұрын
well, it's possible that the spring broke depending on how old it is, but it could also just be sticking from the old grease being dried up. I call that "Stiction . The only way to know for sure is to open it up, inspect the parts, clean them and see if it works.

hello WRT. I have the common issue of early or late date changes in 2 of my watches (1 auto 1 quartz) but what I've noticed is that the date changing process has become prolonged since the problem started. for example it used to take 1-2 hours and now it takes 3-4. What could be causing this problem? Thank you!
@watchrepairtutorials8 ай бұрын
Loose hands can be one reason. The time for the date change is determined by the hand position. When setting the hands you turn the crown until the instant the date clicks over. Some date indicator wheels are spring loaded, some take a couple hours. But the moment the date change happens, you set the hr hand, then check it to make sure it’s right, then you set the minute hand.

I was hesitant to try to use the quick change date setting not knowing what point, the function was about to go on, I did take the chance and the chains gate setting works perfectly, but when I advance the hands there’s no change. This is really driving me crazy. I’m not sure if I got a faulty component although I would I would guess not because I ordered it from Switzerland. @@GregJGreen ahhh. It’s a known problem with 3035 that the date wheel is a bit touchy. More than likely there is damage to the teeth that’s causing the issue. The teeth are under a lot of tension and wear is pretty common on these older movements. Who serviced it.Rolex ?
@GregJGreen Жыл бұрын
@@watchrepairtutorials thanks, Alex. I'm not sure if it was sent to a RSC or worked on by a certified Rolex watchmaker elsewhere. Took it to Ben Bridge in Lynnwood, WA in July of last year and got it back in December. I got a Rolex service card but no book or receipt with a Rolex letterhead, so I think it was likely a Ben Bridge watchmaker certified by Rolex. The movement felt too tight when manually winding and I had a hard time getting the crown to screw down properly, so I took it straight back and waited another 4 months before it was ready. I believe Rolex would have replaced anything that showed signs of wear. I was charged $940 for servicing, it should have come back right the first time. It's unacceptable either way, so it's going back yet again, and I'm going to get to the bottom of who serviced it.
