How to Service the PCV System Astro/Safari

This video shows you which components make up the PCV System on Astro and Safari vans. This video lists all replacement parts. The video shows where those parts are located on the van. Done on a 97 GMC Safari. This van had a cracked PCV Vacuum hose which led to a P0171 and P0174 code. Van was running too lean.

A few notes: At 0:37 the hard plastic hose (part of the "breather" side) is not sold online. At 3:55 you can hear the PCV Valve "shake." This is a sign that it is still functional. Also the grommet needed to be rotated 180 degrees. Sitting slant like that gave the valve poor grip. Van went on a 400 mile trip after this, check engine light did not return.

hard plastic "hose" is not sold online. That piece should last the life of the vehicle. Can find a used replacement at the junkyard.

where do the stock small vaccum connection line connect too? You cap the aftermaket one off I need to know where do that line goes too cause I have hissing noise do I cap it off?

Shown at 3:20 ? For the 1997 you only need 1 of those lines. Most likely you will cap off one of them. The top comes from the Pcv valve and one of the bottom lines goes to the check valve located in front of engine.
