We have had increased predator pressure around the farm as well. Something keeps getting into my bee feeder and sucking the sugar water out of it. Then, last night I woke up to an owl hooting at 4:00am right near the meat chickens. smh!

Just curious, why put the food under the trap? I live in FL and we have armadillos. I use a trap that's open on both ends. Armadillos are almost blinds, so I just lean 2×4×8 against each side on each end. I spread out the ends of the 2x4's furtherest from the trap, so they kinda turn into a funnel. No bait needed. I place it in the middle of area they are rooting up. This technique was told to me by an Animal Control Officer. Works usually the first night for me.

For most raccoons I’m sure it does not matter, on an older one, I place the bait under the trap to get them inside. They will try to reach through 1 layer of cage, but usually not 2. This is what I have come up with to work best
