Generally if you need to lower your action at the 12th fret by whatever amount you have to lower the saddle by double that measure, (1/64" at the 12th would require removing 2/64" from the saddle)...
@mvp019
@mvp019 3 жыл бұрын
That is true because the saddle is further than the 12th fret up the "triangle" made by the strings as the hypotenuse and the saddle and fret-board being the 2 other legs.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! It's the measurements that I still cant wrap my head around. I can learn how to play a freaking instrument in less than a year, but I can wrap my head around basic stuff like 64ths.

@vanshankguitars 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Double the measurement you need to go down. Although personally I wouldn't go further than 5 to 6/64".

mvp019 is right geometrically assuming the string height at the nut would be zero/64", and the fingerboard were on a flat plane, but they aren't so the verbage "generally" and "rule of thumb" must be employed...

I think the reason people measure string height at the 12th fret is because at the bridge the measurements are doubled.

That really is a beautiful sounding acoustic guitar - balanced, loud, rich open tone. It sounds like all the forces on the wood are in perfectly harmony.

A very beautiful guitar Sir! Thanks for the action Tip! More people need to know that the truss rod is not the end all be all of setting the action up! Drives me bonkers when buying a used acoustic thats been heavily shortcut to death, just ruins the guitar. I find that mainly electric guitar players will do that more often then an acoustic guitarist. I always tell my new students to learn on an Acoustic first. I get it, ya want people to stick with playing the guitar so try and make it easier not harder off the get go. This is my counter to that. Learning how to play the guitar is not an easy thing to learn. Nor should it ever be! If the difference between an electric and a acoustic guitar is the difference between someone who sticks with it and someone who gives up then they were going to give up no matter what. So why start on an acoustic? Mainly because it builds up hand strength and calluses; pretty sure i did not spell that rite but ya get my point. It will weed out the people truly dedicated to learning the greatest instrument ever created, not waste as much of your time as the teacher and when they begin to show that they are serious about the craft of playing this instrument, when they go to pick up an electric, it’ll feel like playing a big stick of butter! Lol and they will thank you for the new skill they will be learning for the rest of their lives! 30 years in and I will never be good enough in my opinion. There is and will only ever be 1 David Gilmour

I think someone should play what they want IF they are convinced that's all they want to play. I've met a few people like that. Honestly had zero desire to ever play acoustic. But otherwise, I completely agree. It's better to learn on acoustic. Honestly, even if I'm playing a lot of electric, I usually find out there are some flaws in my technique on acoustic. You can get away w/ some sloppy habits on electric. And like you said, when I go to electric, it just feels easy. The only thing that is tougher on an electric is you obviously have to mute a lot more. I remember that was a big shock to me when I first started playing electric. You very loudly hear things you don't even notice is there on acoustic. In reality, I like switching between the two instruments and playing one, then the other keeps the guitar fresh for me.
