Hey Kelvin, with PAs, where should the front of house be set to begin with. Should this be set after the mixer is set, so the faders can be set to infinity ( some suggest this) and then bring up the front of house to suit the venue? Eg we always set the front of house to half then adjust the volume from the mixer, but sometimes it can be a bit loud and feedback with the faders being carried real low to avoid this. Especially when in a beer garden and we need to drive the PA because of the open air situation. The result is good in the end but sometimes takes a while to get there. Hope this makes sense.

I usually turn down the channel fader when setting gain for my inputs and rely on my level meter for guidance. But in this video, the channel fader was turned up to the 0dB mark so as to enable you guys hear the audio from the mixer.

Thank you.. Please how can I have my speakers and subs connected to different amps
@donf38772 жыл бұрын
One of the problems (issues) is, EVERY fricking manufacturer has a different idea of where the levels should be on their analog mixer. Mackie... they don't want the level to EVER get to or above -0- db. They want you to set the signal at a nominal --6 peaking to -3. Allen and Heath, on the other hand... their ideal nominal level is +3 to +6 peaking to +9 (all in the yellow band), but not hitting +16 (red). Set a Mackie up that way and it will NOT be happy. And, Yamaha advises turning up the channel gain until the peak light come on intermittently. But, one of the BIG things I have noticed people do: They set the channel trim up, then crank in an off-board compressor... and readjust the trim higher. This is a sure way of getting the channel to distort!!! Once the trim is set, don't readjust it after adding in off-board effects.

If After setting the gain I apply a subtractive eq. Do I have to increase the gain to zero again?

You don't have to. Your faders or volume control knobs can be used to match the levels.

Plseae sir on every channel strip on my mixer is having a peak indicator. Will there be any effect if a peak indicator on channel strip is blinking.
@KelvinEriaganoma2 жыл бұрын
If the peak indicator blinks, it means that the channel is overloaded and the signal is distorted. The effect of this is poorly sounding audio. You can fix this by setting gain properly. Check out this video to see how to do that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2Lcl5mXrsyajKs

Hi Which mixer is best when it comes to effects yamaha or soundcraft.
@KelvinEriaganoma3 жыл бұрын
Although I currently use a Yamaha console, I strongly believe you can’t go wrong with either of both mixers when it comes to using their internal effects processors, especially when mixing live sound. I think your decision should be based more on which console matches your workflow, than on which one sounds best because they both sound amazing.

What if the console am using doesn’t have a”pad” button what do I do...thanks
@KelvinEriaganoma3 жыл бұрын
The PAD switch is only useful when you have inputs that are already peaking even with the gain knob turned down, and that doesn’t always happen. However, if your mixer doesn’t have a PAD button, and you have a hot input signal, your best option is to turn down the signal before it gets to the mixer, probably at the source; like reducing the volume of a keyboard or music playback device, or on the signal path to the mixer; like using the PAD button on a DI box. If it’s a microphone input, you can change the microphone placement relative to the sound source (overhead drum mics are a good example) or you can change the microphone to a less sensitive one.

Where was your fader level when setting your gain??
@KelvinEriaganoma7 ай бұрын
The fader position doesn't matter when setting gain, although I bring it down before setting gain, so audio does not come out from the speakers until I want it to.

Boss Kelvin, what if its an analog mixer and it doesn't have a green to yellow lights that indicate the 0db as shown in your mixer
@KelvinEriaganoma3 жыл бұрын
For consoles without a full level meter (usually small or generic mixers), you should lookout for a peak or clip indicator on each channel strip. In this case, you have to use your ears. Keep both your channel and master volume faders/knobs at unity (0dB mark) and increase the gain until it sounds loud enough without clipping. If it does clip, you can reduce the channel volume to compensate, or rather, reduce the master volume if that's the case with multiple channels. Thank you for checking out the video.

So so do you mean once you want to set your microphone or any other instrument should I turn The Equalizer All the way down before starting my gain then after start setting my equaliser
@KelvinEriaganoma2 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Setting gain has nothing to do with EQ. You can leave the equalizer knobs as they are while setting gain. After which, you can then make EQ adjustments.
