How to Set Microsoft Word as the Default Application In Windows 10 Tutorial
Run filed command: ms-settings:defaultapps
Several Windows users have been reaching us with questions after being annoyed by the fact that their computer refuses to make Word the default program for opening .docx files even if they click Yes at the prompt and then configure the types that should be opened by the text editor. Most affected users are reporting that they get the ‘Word isn’t Your Default Program for Viewing and Editing Docs’ every time they try to open a .docx file. The issue is not exclusive to a certain Windows version as it’s confirmed to occur on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

How do I set a different word version? In the setting you show there, word is always showing. However, that is not the case here. It just says no app is installed and the only other option is do to app store. I do however have an earlier version Office installed and it does work. I just cannot associate it it with the files as it is not showing in the default app list

gonna leave a comment cuz it actually worked. thank you so much, every time I do my assignments, I open Microsoft word but after saving it and when I open it again to edit, it use to open WPS word which would change the settings of my assignments... Thank you once again for solving the problem

I was going BONKERS trying to fix this problem; I initially thought I had to go through each and every file (hundreds and hundreds) to convert them from IE which I accidentally converted them to while trying to download a new platform. I swear I’ve been figuring out how to set my default apps for hours and hours. I can’t remember what the original file type was and when I tried downloading a file it went to wordpad and ever since then I’ve been trying to figure out why I can’t choose another default app for my file types

Someone shared a word document with me on OneDrive. When I click the file, it opens in the browser. When I click "edit -> open in desktop app" the computer was set to open in browser "always". Will doing what you said in the video fix the problem? I want the document to open in the word app

recently I had a windows update which seem to change a few things on my laptop, mainly Ms Word. Before I had Ms Word 2016 as my main word application, but now I have Ms Word 365 as my main Word application, which I DO NOT want. How do I get my Ms Word 2016 back? I looked into the uninstall and they are both there, office 365 & home & student 2016. If I uninsall office 365, will my home & student 2016 still work? I'm a complete novice with computers.
