I've always found that the real problem with perfectionism is an imperfect idea of what is actually perfect.

OCD is the bane of every perfectionist. But, it usually gets us the results that we are after.

Very interesting. Nice work sir. This is very helpful. Thank you

May your time in the dark room be short!! Slow motion sounds were memorising and shows that the timing was perfect in the end. Good luck from Spain!! PS: Will watch the next video from the UK, first time back in well over two years!!

Hello, this is the bane of the piston valves. You see nothing and have to try, try and try. On the large steam engines, this was only possible by measuring the valve travel. But now everything is fine. A good job.👍

Thanks for this little series on the P&M Research engine, certainly got interest going, my machined kit arrived today 👍

Tempted to purchase one of these little gems. Thankyou for the tutorial on setting it up to run so smoothly.

I'm watching that running in slow motion and wondering if maybe the piston might not be perfectly in the correct position ! You've got me at it now !!!

Is there a video of yours that you'd reccomend watching in timing a steam locomotive? I've acquired my first live steam engine recently. An LBSC designed Purley Grange in 2.5 gauge and its filthy and needs a lot of work but at least the valve gear runs smoothly. I do want to clean up and repaint a lot of the engine but am afraid to mess with the timing.

I have many videos showing the timing of Stephenson's Link Valve Gear on stationary engines. The process is identical on a locomotive with Stephenson's Link Valve Gear. I would recommend that if the timing is OK - don't mess with it. Try this video for starters: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJeadphmrrV-rLM

I replaced the slotted screws with hex head screws. Looks much better!

It sounds great! Will you be running it on steam?

is it possible that the spool is not machined enough to get good timing and early admission?
@willi-fg2dh2 жыл бұрын
that last bit of slow motion sounds exactly like i do when i'm trying to breathe . . . do you think my valve timing is out?
@tomwatson69242 жыл бұрын
Simle question: Does listening and observing in "slo-mo" help in setting the timing? It seems it might, but not having either a camera, or a steam engine, I and a little out of my league here.

Not very often but it does sometimes . . . . .

It would be interesting to see how much movement there is in that flimsy eccentric rod
@keithappleton2 жыл бұрын
Because this is a Piston Valve engine, the Eccentric Rod doesn't need to be strong like it would be if it was a Slide Valve engine . . . .
