Probably even more important then the actual rates is how you structure the agreement between you and the artist/label. This is especially true if there are any royalties or any other payment that isn’t fixed or due prior to the completion of the work. There are lots of ways to handle this but putting some thought into those details is at least as important as what the actual dollar amount or royalty rate is

I've just started ghost producing for some dudes and I'm charging the equivilent of $148USD per song but I have been told I should charge more, but only producing for about 3 years I tend to doubt myself and where I am from, I can't seem to find anyone that I could turn to for advice.

Hi, it all depends on your work, your experience and your portfolio. If you raise your charge , you have to be able to show examples to see that it's worth it to buy your service. But like Austin said, 148USD is too less. I would at least charge 200-250$.

I always wonder when you see footages of people collaborating in the studio like kanye with TI, DJ khaled with whoever etc. they always walk into the studio and go straight into work. Like when do they paperwork, before or after coming to the studio. Sometimes i feel like they didn't talk about any of royalty at all. But that's just the looks of it. Anyone?

Work first, do paperwork second. Normally everyone in the room when the song is produced and written will get an EQUAL cut. They also have publishers and managers that handle all of that for them.

Though I had a very small doubt, The publishing agency you mentioned for collecting those points on the backend are those the same as like CD Baby for collecting your publishing royalties? More precisely, does an entity like CD Baby or Tunecore get that done along with your publishing royalties or do you need any other agency in place? and if so, do you have suggestions? And also how do you register those points on someone else's records? Thank you so much for taking the time out and helping me.

Some distro companies can handle points and splits. Sometimes labels have to send letters of direction to sound exchange. Sometimes they have to manually send reports to the producer. It can be a pain in the ass.

Do a video on how to deal w/ sponsors and how to price sponsorec content or feature? It'd be super helpful to creators to not get the short end of the stick

Companies send me stuff. I try it out and if I really like it and use it, I’ll consider doing a sponsorship with them. I get a lot of free stuff that I don’t love so I don’t use the software or send the physical gear back so it isn’t wasted. If I like the company, love the product, and feel like it actually brings value to our audience, my business partner and I will come up with a package and a rate for the company. Can’t really give out numbers since those are protected in contracts typically but I would say on average our sponsors get about $0.12-$0.20 per view in value. Sometimes they also have affiliate programs so we can continue to earn. Sometimes it’s just a one off fee. I’ve seen people charge $500 for a sponsored video and I’ve seen people charge $10,000 for a sponsored video. There’s a huge range.

It’s common if the producer co-writes! If they don’t touch lyrics or melody, it’s uncommon to get publishing. They’d just get points then
