Stop limit order is used when you're not sure or you haven't decided if you want to sell at a particular price. For example, if I bought a coin at a price of $10 and the price is now $20, I might want to wait some more to see if the price will get to $30 before selling. But at the same time, I don't want to lose the $10 profit I've already made in case price falls back down. This is the situation a stop limit order is designed for. In this case, I can say "don't do anything if price keeps rising because I want the extra profit". I also don't want to sell now cos I don't want to miss out if price continues to rise but in case price starts falling instead, then sell at x price. A limit order cannot handle this situation because it was not designed for this. Limit orders are used when you have decided the price you want to buy or sell at. Always use the order type that fits your situation. You don't have to use one or the other. This video is designed for a general audience.

Say you buy at $0.58. You want to stop losses beyond $0.52. That's easy: you create a stop limit order, making the limit price slightly lower. However, say you ALSO want to sell at $0.75. Someone in these comments said to create a separate limit order to sell at $0.75. However, at least on Binance US, you can't do that. Once a stop-limit order has been placed for all your asset, you can't do a limit order to sell the same asset at the higher price. You can't even place a market order because the assert is not available.

at 5:28, we say that about the LimitPrice we should be careful that it might execute - OK.. however, if it has to execute just right there, then what is the purpose of STOP price? I think the order is placed only when the price reaches the STOP price and only then your stock would get sold at 305.94 if you accidently leave limit price.. Could you confirm if it is this way? or are you sure that it will execute immeditely when you place your 'Sell' order - but then what is purpose of STOP price in this case?

Okay so you can only do two things in one stop limit order. Once it stops and sells your coins at 45k, the order is done. It won’t do anything else cos there’s nowhere to set anything else.

why use "stop-limit" rather than "limit". I'm confused that both does the same thing. For example "Stop-limit": If the price reaches 301 then I will sell the coins for 300. "Limit": If the price reaches 301 then I will sell it for 301 Please clarify my understanding.
@foryouandformeme20553 жыл бұрын
So both in buy and sell stop limit should be higher than the limit order? And for stop limit this how I understand if selling for example stop limit 5500 limit is 5450 and if I succeed but the price keeps going down to 5425 then I'm safe because the limit price was already sell. Did I understand it?

Yes, you understand it correctly. If selling, put the limit price a little higher than the stop price and if buying, put the limit price a little lower than the stop price. That's how I recommend using it but you can set it any how you like.

Hold up, I dont understand why you use a stop limit to profit. A stop limit is meant to save you further loses if the price goes against you. So if you purchased at 310, a stop limit has to be lower to stop you out if price falls for example to 300. The stop limit triggers and takes you out of the market and price keeps dropping to lets say 250. If you want to profit you can simply place a single limit order at 335.1. This says if the price reaches 335.1 sell my coins for a profit. I mean technically you can do it your way but a stop limit is meant to save you from loses. What happens if the coin never reaches your stop at 335.1 and the coin keeps dumping to 150. Now you're further in the hole and have to either sell for a major loss or wait until price rises again.
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
You use it the way I described if you're already in a profit. So let's say you bought a coin at $10 and the coin is now $20 but you think it might still go up so you don't sell. So even if everything from 10 to 20 is a profit, you don't want to lose it all so you can decide to stop it when price dumps to a certain point even if it's still technically a profit. That's the scenario here.
@kiwicam64193 жыл бұрын
@@CryptoGiant Thanks - that helps explain the lower limit price vs the stop price. Makes sense it case it keeps going higher and never comes back down.
@kiwicam64193 жыл бұрын
@@CryptoGiant Thinking about this further. Doesn't a stop-limit order create a LIMIT order when executed? It sounds like you want the stop-limit order to create another stop limit order, but not sure if that is possible. Eg if you buy at $10 and create a stop-limit at $20 for a $19 sell price. Wouldn't the $19 sell limit order get executed immediately since there will be a a buyer at $19 (when current price is $20)? So you cannot benefit from a $25 price in this case as you would have sold, which means you might as well add it as a simple limit order. I think there are a few people in these comments confused about why you would use a stop-limit order to sell at a higher price.

If the price rises to above 335.10 then why would you want to sell for 335.05? Seems like you could make an extra 5 cents and take less steps... what am I missing? Or are you explaining wrong?
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
I think you missed the point. A limit order is designed to buy/sell at a price you set or better. So, if the current price of a coin is $1 for example and you set a limit order to sell at $0.9. your coin will be sold immediately. But if you are in a situation where you are not sure if price will go up or down from the point it is but you don't want to sell if price keeps going up because you want to keep accumulating your profit and if price falls instead, that's the only situation that will make you want to sell, then a limit order cannot handle that situation. That's what a stop limit is for. If you still don't understand it, maybe read more on it from the available resources on the web or watch other people's videos who might explain in a way you understand.
@rodfres263 жыл бұрын
hi! i have a question. is there any rule of thumb when setting a stop and limit order? for ex. my entry price is 30 then my limit(or exit) is 20. what is the recommended difference to set for my stop or trigger(23, 25, 28?) and what is the reason behind it? hope you can help
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
The idea behind it is... You have a price you bought your coin e.g. 30. Depending on the current price of the coin you set wherever you want it to stop and sell for you. So if the current price is 35 for example, I can set it as (exit price 32, trigger price 32.1) what I did here is tell the platform if price drops up till 32.1, sell my coin at a price of 32. The numbers can be anything but set it in such a way that you don't make a loss. Or if you're willing to take a little loss maybe because you think the price will rise again, you can set something like exit price 29, trigger price 29.1
@rodfres263 жыл бұрын
@@CryptoGiant thanks for you response! i kinda understand how the stop limit works. i just wanted to know if there is any rule about setting the price difference between the trigger price and the limit(or exit)? for ex. instead of 32.1(trigger price) to 32(limit price) why not make it 29 instead? i saw one youtube video saying to not set it your trigger price and limit price very near(e.q. 32.1 to 32)
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
@@rodfres26 Ok no there's no rule. It depends on you.
@rodfres263 жыл бұрын
@@CryptoGiant got it. but will there be any implication if i set a big or small difference? for ex. 32.1 to 32 vs 32.1 to 25?
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
@@rodfres26 Yes! 25 is the price your crypto actually sells for. So if the current price is 32 and you're already at a loss, why sell at a bigger loss? The idea is for you to stop your loss that's why you sell very close to the trigger price. If you're in profit, you also want to make the most profit possible and that's why you sell close to the trigger price.

I don’t understand why it would sell immediately at 305 but not at 335.05??. Why set a stop limit at all? Why not just set the limit for 335?
@kiwicam64193 жыл бұрын
I agree. I don't think that was a good example to use for a stop-limit. i think you just want to use stop-limits for scenarios where the order would execute immedatly if you added it as a simple limit order.
@kiwicam64193 жыл бұрын
I read her comment below. What she was trying to do was create a stop limit order in the future. So at 335.10 she wants to create a stop-limit order for 305.05 to sell only if the price drops back down to that level. However, I think the 305.05 sell order would execute immediately as there will be a buyer at that price. Which is back to your point....

Why do we need two inputs? I simply want to sell it when it reaches a drops to a certain price. Why do we need to set another input - a stop limit just a little higher than the selling price? The stop limit input seems redundant... as I simply want to see when it drops to a specific price
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
The stop limit order is not redundant for what it was designed to do. Based on what you described, you need a regular limit order. So just set a limit order and sell your coins. A stop limit order is made for a different scenario for example, you want to protect your profit and sell if price falls to a certain point but you don't want to sell if price goes up. If you set a limit order that's lower than current price, your coins will get sold immediately. But if you set a stop limit order, then your coins won't get sold if price goes up and only get sold if price goes down to the point you set.

@@CryptoGiant thanks for the reply but that didn't answer my question. Maybe I didn't ask the question clearly. My question is - why there are two inputs in a stop limit order? The first input triggers the selling price set by us in the second input. Why isn't there a single input. Because we are mainly interested in selling our coins if it falls below a specific price set by us. In this scenario I am assuming that we want to sell at a price below the current market price, so we can't use the simple limit order
@CryptoGiant3 жыл бұрын
I answered your question. If the price falls/rises to (input 1), buy/sell at (input 2). Someone might want to set it to buy lower than the trigger price or sell higher than the trigger price (cos price doesn’t move in a straight line. It goes up and down regardless of the general direction). That’s what the two inputs are for. If you want to buy/sell at the trigger price then do so but the option is there for others who want more control.
