After racing motorcycles 1st then racing cars, I found that closer to the steering wheel is better when you're driving aggressively. The further back you are from the wheel, the harder it is to drive. On a motorcycle with your head further forward your bike follows where your head is pointing. I do the same with a car and shave seconds off each lap.
@poloska94712 жыл бұрын
This is indeed true, but up to a certain point of course, you don’t want to be too close because it has diminishing returns and increasing safety risk the closer you get. Also, the point about the car following where your head is is definitely spot on, that is indeed how it works when you are driving to go FAST. It also improves your situational awareness because it is easier to twist the body… so many people get lazy when driving, but if you want to go HARD you are going to need to be an athlete behind the wheel just as much as a great strategist.

either way its uncomfortable to drive when ur arms are constantly extended like that, this vid is trying to apply what the medical books say but thats not really how it works in practice. research also said the healthiest way to sit is by changing ur posture often, its not just one posture that is the ultimate posture.

If your car has 10 way adjustable seats you should also recline the seat to where it takes pressure off your sitting bones but not enough to ruin visibility and tilt the seat and adjust height to where your thighs are properly supported,and have good visibility and you have enough headroom, and adjust the lumbar support to where it matches the natural curvature of your back as close as possible.
@ThatGuy-ou4ev2 жыл бұрын
Since racing involves a helmet and hans device they don't usually mention it, but you should have your head touching or as close to the headrest as possible when looking forward. This will reduce the likelyhood of whiplash.

120° elbows are stronger. They also ensure your arms don’t get thrown into the roof of the car in a crash by the airbag. It’s also more comfortable on long drives and a lot less tiring. Pity airbags are designed for a person sitting straight armed and leaning back slightly. Apparently there’s nothing more “Fun” than getting smashed by a still inflating airbag, rather than hitting it when it is inflated.

For daily driving maybe but for performance driving you need to be sitting a LOT closer than you'd think and your seat needs to be nearly vertical. You want to be able to apply a good amount of force to turn the wheel about 3/4 the way around in each direction without removing your hands from the wheel and your hands need to be at the sides of the wheel. I mean I'm sure you are just unaware and have no race experience but you give the impression that this is supposed to be a racing position when it definitely isn't.

While i am a bit of a hypocrite for stating this, you use the old "10 and 2" hand possition on the steering wheel. While this is fine for the car its pictured in with your model, on cars with driver airbags, it puts the driver in a perfect possition to have their wrist snapped if they deploy. I am guessing this video is part of a series where the difference is understood, but since this video is being pushed on its own by the algorithim, it may be smart to put a disclaimer at the start.
