Hey Sam, Mel here of the KZbin channel "Melissa's Legally Blind World" and I now just tried your trick of "right click, select 'large', and it just made my laptop icons alot bigger, which helps a thousand, I didn't know you could enlarge your computer's icons like this. I would like to add my thanks for sharing this video. I did not even know how much we could tweak windows, to make life so much easier when you have eyesight problems. It has made my life much easier as I was often looking to find out where the cursor was. Also, there were other things that I changed that has helped.

I have a 15 inch screen Dell laptop connected to a 32 inch Samsung Monitor/TV. I also have a wired Logitech keyboard and a gaming mouse so that way I don't have to use the keyboard and the mouse-pad/track-pad on the laptop. I use Rain meter widgets for large time & date at the top right of the desktop. I use Magnification, High Contrast/ Inverted Colors, and the Mouse Pointer is Large and is a Greenish/Yellow color. I don't really use Narrator that often. I have used NVDA and ZoomText before. I updated my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 10 just by watching KZbin & following simple steps from Microsoft Support. I am low vision so this set up works for me for now. In the future, if I need to use speech, I already have NVDA installed and know how to get to the speech settings and the keyboard commands to get through the NVDA menu.

I also have Stargardt's and I don't like using too big of a screen because I find I still have to be close to see things in general and on bigger screens you end up seeing the pixel colours separate. Maybe that's just a problem if you have a lower resolution screen too. I also find that I loose the mouse more because it's more often in my blind spot. Just an observation!

Thanks Sam for this updated version. I just had Microsoft look at my laptop and noticed that I was running an older version of Windows 10 so he installed the newest version of Windows 10 and I was just like where do I go to do and what settings do I use. I mean they changed everything upgraded it. Which is fantastic! But I'm so thankful that you made this video true kind of guide us to where to go. Thanks again Sam. Please tell your family hi for me and say hi to Skyler also. Take care and bless you all . 8

I have trouble seeing the field boxes on sites that want you to fill in information. They always have a light grey or light green on a white background. then because you can't see all the required fields, you inevitably miss one, but when you press the button to submit your info, you get a reject message, "required fields are highlighted in RED..." But i can't see RED.. So i can't access even the lighthouse contact page to ask them questions. Not even Lighthouse is ADA compliant and it is impossible to get ahold of them to request that they not make it so complicated/impossible to contact them.. ie: ADA compliance for those with visual impairment or dyslexia. Autofill can't navigate fields that have a toggles (like the state toggle). and if you can't see the field, you can't get equal access to information. All i want is equal access to websites for visually impaired and even the web address for blind/visually impaired doesn't have an ADA compliant website. yours truly, frustrated.

@theblindlife4 жыл бұрын
I have a GoPro and one nice feature of the camera is that it has a lot of audio cues. It beeps when you turn it on and off, beeps when you start and stop recording, etc. Also, you can control it with your voice. You can say start recording, or something like that. You should check out Steve Fox and York the guy dog channel, he uses a GoPro and talks about how helpful they are.

Hi blind life I love your videos I just have a question which one do you think is easier for a visually impaired college student I live in the UK should I get a MacBook or a normal laptop I am almost fully blind I can’t see detail things
@theblindlife4 жыл бұрын
Juan isn’t going to be any easier than the other, you will still need to learn how to use either one. However, if you already have an iPhone or iPad, the Mac may be a little more familiar to you. Then again, you can get a PC for a lot less money.

Do you use a screen magnifier? In the video it seemed to be zooming and and out very efficiently but I realized that may be just the video editing?
@theblindlife4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I use the built-in windows magnifier. All the zooming in in the video was done with the Magnifier, no editing.
@liammccoy75024 жыл бұрын
oh cool, what shortcuts do you use to zoom? I have been using windows + but it is not as smooth or as quick as it looked in the video

I am not blind but I have vision issues. I'm looking for a new computer (prefer a laptop). I am assuming that not just any computer will allow me to customize (esp. the resolution) as your video suggests. Do you have any suggestions -- without going into thousands of dollars. Thanks.

Oh it is sure is not the only way to set it up, first thing I noticed is that the words below the icons are not in a bigger font. I will say he s on the near blind side where they get to hear a screen reader yammer on telling you shit you don't want it to.

I'm looking into getting a 32inch curved monitor for work are these ideal for visually impaired??
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. The curved monitor would be great for anyone with central vision loss. Curving the edges of the screen around will be great for someone who uses their peripheral vision. 32 inches is a good size as well.

@PeteTorkington4 жыл бұрын
Press Windows Key and the + key, this starts Windows Magnifier, in there you can change it's settings and experiment to find what works for you, for example try "whole screen". Keep pressing Windows Key and + to zoom in more or Windows Key and - to zoom out. Works inside games too :)
