Everything you need to know about setting up a crested gecko enclosure! there are divided opinions out there on if a crested gecko needs UVB lighting or not, so please do your own research and be the judge of what's best for your own personal crestie; mine have always done fine without it. I believe the lighting can stress them out and they like it better without, just make sure to supplement their diet with all the good vitamins such as vitamin d3!
--------------------------
I have two crested cages running happily :)
yes both are missing their tails sadly though.
Pheonix, my crested not featured in this video I was given to by a breeder. He was a retired breeding male and he is literally a spaz. He is very nervous about everything and in the middle of the night once while I was sleeping, a vine shifted in his tank, he saw a shadow, and threw his tail.. :(
Echo; the male featured in this video, dropped his tail about a week ago. I had a friend visiting and she asked to hold him (he's super friendly, has always tolerated handling) but the second she BARELY touched his tail he had enough and dropped it. Suprising behavior from him as I have brought him to schools and done educational classes with him and never has he decided to throw his tail before (obviously). so now I have two nubby-butt geckos :'(
--------------------------------
magnetic ledge: www.amazon.com...
cage: i'm using a Zilla cage in a 20L size turned on its side for both my tanks, but any 20 long will do great! I just like the lid on this one.

After watching your videos I’ve fallen in love with reptiles. And created geckos for me will be a great starting point ! I’m confident in all their care so much so I could make a video about it or explain it to someone. One of my mums oppositions was paying the electric bill for the heat pad and lights. But they don’t actually need them ! Thank you so much Taylor 💕 and to Echo and Phoenix for being little models

With my little cresties food dishes I like to have two small plastic cups, sometimes when I need to clean her dish, the food paste I use is still wet and hard to clean out. What I’ll do is use the second cup for her next meal, then by the time I need to refeed her the first dish is dry enough I can just pick out the paste, and it comes out like a little chip, or multiple! The second dish can be cleaned the same way by the next feeding time too! It’s efficient and doesn’t waste a bunch of plastic!

you SHOULD use tap water to spray down the tank. Filtered water removes all the nutrients they need. Although yes bottled purified would work too, but tap water is doable.

since this is an old video i dont think ill get a reply, but ill ask anyway! i plan to get a crestie however ive been getting conflicting information on every website i go on, mainly about the setup. some are saying they need a heat mat somewhere and a hide on the bottom, some say they must have a heat lamp, and some say they dont and i really need clarification from a trusted/seasoned owner! i was planning to get a somewhat weak lamp for the crestie ONLY for the winters if its very cold [my room gets very cold in the winter, below 70's despite having the heat on in the house] i saw in your other video that you have some sort of net hammock and was wondering if that would be a good choice rather than only leaves/vines? [plus i doubt the crestie would ever use the hut on the ground unless for shedding] i will most likely start getting everything i need during the winter [i have the same tank as you and plan to reuse it] as i believe the best idea would to get the crestie during the spring/close to summer to help save money for the lamp [the lamps/bulbs i use are a bit expensive] and to ensure my future crestie wont get extra stressed from the cold/moving to my home i apologize if any of my information is wrong/bad for the crested gecko, this would be a first crestie for me and would love for any and every corrections! thank you/anyone for reading and possibly helping!

ScribbledTale i use a heat mat because crested geckos like to stay warm ( well mine does anyway) . Also most people say not to put the food on the ground because they like to climb but my crested gecko 🦎 (echo) has absolutely no problem eating of the floor and he has a hut on the floor of his cage that he is always hiding in and sleeping in, but everyone's gecko is different especially mine because he prefers to drink from a water dish rather than the mist from the spray bottle

Hello, ive had a crestie for about 3 years now and im not a lizard expert but i hope this helps. i understand you, most videos on youtube say that they don't need a heat source but i highly recommend one. For mine i have 2 heat lamps, one which is hotter to use during winter and one that is cooler to use during the summer (It's usually cold here during the sumer). I also recommend that you buy a thermometer to make sure that it doesn't get too hot or cold. I would also not use heat mats as there have been stories of cresties buring their feet on them. I don't have any hammocks for mine but i do have fake flowers, braches and other things to climb. As long as the things you put in the tank promote climbing it should be okay. I also feel that it's good to change up your tank now and again by adding new things to climb so they don't get bored. My gecko also likes to go on the floor to eat so i also have a hide for him. He also only drinks from a water bowl so i recommend getting one (it also helps to keep humidity)

thank you so much for replying!! after my comment i got one [more like a few weeks] and got a juvenile; the seller also sold already set-up kits so i didnt have to full out buy a new tank [its a plastic container for some reason i didnt think to do this] it came with a mossy carpet of some sort, several leaves, three wooden sticks and two sticks covered in the same mossy stuff. it also came with a magnetic ledge for food though i failed to buy the cups for it, so i had to go out and find similar cups and i have to cut them to the right size to each feeding this week however, i noticed a bit of mold had spotted up on the lid of the tub [the previous night i had to use a heating mat despite what you just posted, its only 1/4 on the bottom of the container and it dropped very low that night] i cleaned it off with the proper cleaning supplies and decided to see if the bottom had burned from the heating mat as i was very hesitant to use it, and thats when i found out the moss carpet of some sort either had mold all over it, or the moss was soaked from my spraying it tore off pieces of the paper on the bottom. i was a bit panicked, but i cleaned everything inside the container and the container itself and let it dry out. i should have taken pictures so i could possibly show you to determine if it was mold or not, hopefully it wasnt as i doubt thats good for the crestie and plus im pretty allergic to molds. im also not quite sure of its age, im sure i could email them as the container said 4/29/16, though mines clearly not a year old and i assume its just meaning to say '17 and not '16, though im concerned with their weight as theyre not underweight, just not really gaining any at all. i assume this is where feeders once a week or two come into play? sorry for the long message, im the type of person to ramble and go into a lot of depth, thanks again!

hello! I currently have my crested gecko in a ten gallon long tank (he’s pretty small atm) but he will need an upgrade in about 6 months. I have a long display case that’s pretty big in my garage. It has plenty of air holes and such, he couldn’t escape, but I was wondering if anything over 20 gallons would stress him out? The display case is probably 30-35 gallons. I’d add plenty of decorations and make sure is not barren.

Hey, I know I’m 5 years late, but where did you get the yellow and black striped sticks in the enclosure? I have seen many people have it but i don’t really know what to search for and what they are called.

Hello! I am getting a crested gecko soon and when I go to the pet store to get the tank and stuff I have a checklist to make sure i get everything i need and I was just wondering if anyone could read over it and see if I need to add anything, here it is: Tank (12x12x18) Plants Things to climb such as vines food canopy/ledge disinfectant Repashy thermometer hygrometer hides substrait heating tank decor calcium/vitamins Dripper & Fogger (optional)

Crested geckos really don't need heating. It can actually stress them out, causing illness or death. Also, 12x12x18 is the minimum size, but 18x18x24 is the best for an adult gecko.

you can use tap water, it won't hurt the gecko but the other water is better for it, so it doesn't matter, i use tap water

ah okay thank you. i've been using bottled water recently as i can get big bottles for a decent price and they last longer, but it's nice to know that there's always an alternative option that won't harm them, thanks.

My crested gecko is outgrowing her glass cage and I need to get her a bigger one. Would an all screened cage be ok or does it need to be something that will hold humidity better than that? I’m looking at one that is 18x18x36 inches right now. Which is the right size but maybe not the right material. What do you think?

I know I am late but can you use a really tall plastic container for a crested geckos? I have heard that it keeps it more humid for Tiger Salamanders. (With drilling holes in it of course)

Not all crested geckos like Heights Over the width of a cage, mine absolutely loves with over the height he has all kinds of things to climb up on but prefers to stay near the bottom and runs around in circles😂

My room stays usually between 64-68 maybe a little warmer. I have a floor/window AC unit because of my chronic illness and treatment I need it. What kind of heat source should I get for a crested gecko? Maybe a stick on heat mat and stick it somewhere on the side or back of the tank or some kind or heat lamp? Thank you:)
