CURT weight distribution hitches, or load-equalizing hitches, are designed to create a level ride across your tow vehicle and trailer. This is done by equalizing or distributing the tongue weight of the trailer more evenly onto the vehicle’s axles.

Thank you for a very informative video. I was given most of one of these systems and your video shows the parts I needed to bolt to the trailer frame. Now that I have everything I need I can get this hooked up.

I don't understand this my instruction said the top of the ball should be the same height as the trailer hitch where the ball goes up in it the other videos I watch said the same thing with the ball height the same as the inside of the coupler hitch height could someone reflect on this please

Wring instructions on before and after height calculations. Not physically possible to get both front and rear distance within 1/2" of unloaded height. Simple physics will not allow this if you are towing a reasonable amount of weight.

Why is the professional trapping the link of the chain above the hook. I’m watching this to learn and this is not helpful.

Did everything that was explained. Still losing over 1”. Went above coupler 1.5”. Tried dropping my hitch a couple of holes down and still same results. What am I doing wrong? Should I go higher instead. Frustrating. Also leveling trailer should be on the front A frame or the frame that holds the sleeping compartment? I ask because they are different angles. I would go off the center frame but maybe I’m wrong as well. Please help

The 1/2" rule is BS. That depends on a lot of factors. Spring rate, wheel base, tire sidewall softness, etc. On my 2021 F-150 with 18" wheels, tires at 40 PSI, 157" wheelbase, 7100 package, 800 lbs tongue weight, I was able to get the trailer completely level, 1" sag in the rear, 0 raise on the front. If I add a link, the rear sags more just to get the front to raise 1/2", but the trailer becomes 1" lower in the front than at the rear. That puts more weight on the front axle of the trailer, more weight on the hitch, more weight on the rear axle of the vehicle, and less weight on the front of the vehicle. Everything you're trying to avoid with a WD hitch. This creates a less stable and less safe setup all around. While 1/2" raise isn't much, 0 raise is better. And no way was I going to get this truck to only have 1/2" sag in the rear. It's just not possible no matter how much I play with the hitch angle or the hitch height.

I don’t understand. If the hitch weight is distributed, shouldn’t that raise the back end of the truck"

Though it doesn't eliminate hitch ball load entirely.
@charlieodom9107

No, it doesn't. Some of the weight is still on the tongue, lowering the rear. If you do as he says in the video, allowing the front to raise 1/2-1", then there will still be a lot of tongue weight. The front should not raise at all! The whole point of a WD hitch is to keep the tongue from removing weight from the front axle.

that was my understanding that when you lower the trailer on the ball the truck should stay the same height it was before hitting up the trailer that's what mine does it's just a Harbor Freight hitch not a very expensive one but it keeps my truck pretty much level

WD hitches are bullsh*t. They DO NOT distribute weight. What they do is create a torque force. This force acts to counter the downward force of the hitch and create a resultant forward force. [proven by simple vector analysis] This means your frame is taking MORE force than otherwise. And, if you are not careful, you can easily overload your front axles, especially when braking. A WD hitch is a torsion hitch. Proof: no torsion bars, no WD effect. A WD can in fact create dangers in emergencies.

Rob Grune If you set the system up properly, as stated in this video, it's actually a million times safer than towing without one. Per vehicle the manufacturer, and the law, if a trailer weighs more than half the weight of the vehicle, a weight distribution system is required to be used. If you don't use it, the trailer takes all the weight off the front axle which would create a mega dangerous situation in an emergency braking situation. You'd lose control instantly. The weight distribution system keeps you in control, keeps the trailer and tow vehicle stable and safe, and keeps you on the road. A weight distribution system is a vital component for all trailers of this type.

I'm a truck driver and I know when loads feel heavy. I've driven with and without WD hitches. If you knew anything about towing you wouldn't post such idiotic and ignorant statements. Basically what I'm saying is "shut the fuck up stupid!"
