The reason I never got into the show is because whenever something interesting like this would be underway it would get interrupted and derailed and ultimately completely abandoned by the need to be humorous and progress the serialized character development driven plotlines. if this was the type of show that took the disassembly repair and reassembly to fruition then it wouldn't be frustrating and I might have actually watched it

I mean I think can actual sitcom based around scientists at a university would have been great. It's a shame TBBT very quickly just devolved into the same things every sitcom does. Relationship drama and comedy bits that go nowhere.
