Great video as usual. I’m setting up my Reefer 170 at the moment. Is it ok to fill up the tank with cold RODI water and salt mix and then let the heater gradually bring the whole tank up to temp? I’m using live sand like in video and not sure if it needs to be heated first. Thanks

Really loved this video. Because I bought this system (haven’t set it up yet), but I hope you make another video where you show how to add like a small sump to this system like the Eshopps Nano Cube Sump. Not sure how to do it but I know I’d like to incorporate a small sump and refugium to my nano tank.

Red Sea Reefers have a true external sump, but don’t come with a skimmer, light or any pumps. They have a nano version of this too. That said, where there’s a will there’s a way, I’m sure. If you really want a refugium for the Max, I’d consider looking at a HOB option.

The light that came with my Red Sea nano max is the RSLED 50 running on the ReefBeat platform. The configuration given in this video is not the same for me. Can someone give me advice on what I should set my light to? I think I only have a blue and white and moon option.

BulkReefSupplyCom That kind of stinks in our weather there's no way we can run a tank without a small csxc-1. This guy would be perfect if you could fit in an extra pump in their. I wonder if you could use just the inline tank pump would be enough..

I installed a chiller on mine. You can fit a small pump (Eheim 1000) next to the rerurn pump and have both the outlet and inlet pipes between the ATO and skimmer.

Hello, I am writing to you from Spain. Your videos seem very interesting and educational to me. I would like to ask you a question... For a tank 30 centimeters high, 30 wide and 120 long, with soft corals and a mitras lightbar 2 actinic 120 screen, about 20 centimeters from the surface, what do you think would be the ideal configuration for my corals? I currently have the following values (11am to 21 pm): Blue: 100% Royal Blue: 100% Hyperviolet: 100% Red: 1% Green: 2% White 6500K: 10% White 8000K: 10% Intensity:100% Do you think it's okay? Would you modify the values? I would greatly appreciate your advice. A greeting.

That seems about right. From there, just use a par meter to dial in the intensity and adjust all light values down in equal ratio if needed.

Hyperviolet: 100% Blue: 95% Royal blue: 94% White 6500k: 12% White 8000k: 12% Red: 1% Green: 2% Intensity: 95% Do you think 95% intensity is fine for my 12 inch high tank or I keep 100% for my mitras lightbar 2 actinic 120? We did not add fish, or coral to this tank until the cycle was complete. These videos shots were just for example. I would wait until you have completed your cycle to add corals, or fish.

Nice now show everyone how easy it is for beginner hobbyist's to totally destroy a nano reef tank because they are unable to manage the chemistry... Generally I like BRS and Red Sea but the content is a product sell hardcore and my two cents is if you are a responsible fish business you do not set ppl up with something that will cause them to fail, especially if you care anything for the animals

I really appreciate BRS and all that they do for the reefing community but I have to say Zodd has a point here. There should be some mention somewhere in the video about marine water chemistry complexity and the research required to manage it long term. Probably also a disclaimer that just because one can set up a SW nano, doesn't mean long term management is as straightforward. Come on BRS, you're better than this.

My first tank was a 20 gallon AOI. Had the tank for 3 years with not one crash. Never had an issue keeping my clams or coral happy.

I had a 2.5 gallon tank in the 1980's using only an undergravel filter. Anyone here old enough to remember those days? That tank lasted years with no problems. When I finally upgraded to a 20 gallon, I simply moved the inhabitants of the small tank to the larger tank. Yes, a little knowledge of water chemistry helps. Regular water changes are mandatory. Don't overfeed. But this hobby has come a long way in the past 30+ years. These all in one kits are a great start, far better than anything I had when I first started keeping marine animals.
