Alex, hard to say how many videos I watched on this to learn what I need to know about this. from Start to finish every detail and a few tips thrown in. Thank You very much I will be fishing this for rainbows on the wyoming rivers this spring and fall. I may even try it on a lake or two for fun.

Fascinating video. Just wondered if fly colour was that important on the basis that if the fish is looking up won’t the fly be in silhouette? Might be a reason why a black simple is one of the most effective flies for this method

Agreed… although I quite like a little blue like the Haugur hitch fly..

Great video! But one question I still have: do you pull the hook into the tubing or do you fish it loose? For the latter case I am alway afraid to miss bites. Thank you!
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
We always pull the hook into the tube so it rides the right way with hook point down….

Hi Alex,great video ,exactly what I was trying to find. what size of single hook would be best for a micro hitch fly?
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Del! We normally use a size 12 or 14 depending on the fly size…. If you liked this video you might find this one helpful as well kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5a2k5SaYs-saKs

@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing thankyou very much,I tried it the other day with micro trebles and lost 4 fish in the bounce which was very frustrating so that’s why I asked the Q😂

great video thank you. how long is your leader ? if the leader is 9 ft how long is your tippet ?
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it it! Generally I like to fish about a 12ft leader, but it really depends on what length you are comfortable with to hitch the fly properly. If it’s too short you are closer to the fish, too long and you can’t control the fly as well and it might not hitch properly….

@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing thanks for your answer, i fished yesterday for the first time with 3mm hitch and 3 salmons slapped the fly but didn't take it unfortunately

All of the tubes on my small hitch flies are too small to accept the eye of my hooks, even down to size 20. What do I do?
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing3 ай бұрын
Steffan what you can do is get some flexible rubber tubing to sleeve the back..
@stefanpeters2983 ай бұрын
@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing thanks. I guess I can also just fish it with the hook eye outside the tube right? These hooks are so small if they're inserted there's barely any hook gap left anyway.

Have you tried it on UK chalk rivers in summer, would be a good method when weed is a problem?

Which side does the line enter the fly in relation the the bank one is on?
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Paul, the line goes in the side you are fishing from with the fly pointing up the river if that make sense... although with a tube fly it does not matter as the fly simply rotates.. Hope that helps!

Ah right, the problems of protocol! I fish the Hampshire Avon and have thought this could be a method worth investigating. Weed is a problem from early summer if you wish to continue with the fly. Watched a salmon last summer acting almost like a trout hitting flies on the surface.
