Hi, I have a question. I think the scammers can be misused our affiliate program. For example, they can list our products on their website or social media and take the advance payments from their customers but would not be ship anything to them. How to avoid this problem?

You can - you can offer referral fees to people who refer business to you! You may not need an software for that, if it's a smaller number of clients to manage.

Hi Jake! Depending on how you pay your affiliates, you might have to issue 1099s yourself or have the platform handle that. For example, we send payments through PayPal and they have a good handle on sending 1099s to people.

Hello, I’m not sure if this is the best place for it, or maybe a different blog. I have a website in the U.S. where I sell digital products and I have affiliate marketers that help sell my products by promoting it. As the owner of my business, what duties DO I have in regards to reporting to the IRS for tax purposes related to me paying my affiliates. I wouldn’t consider my affiliates employees necessarily, but I am paying them. Do I need to fill out a 1099 for each individual, and if I do, do I tell them that upfront (and if they live outside the country I believe there is a different form)? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated, thank you.

Yes you would need to send each affiliate a 1099 if you paid them over the threshold (I believe that was $600 at one point). However, if you pay your affiliates with PayPal, PayPal will take care of sending these 1099s for you. Hope this helps!

Statement that "you don't pay unles you have income coming in" is misleading. Actualy you will pay a lot to bring affiliates to your site, make them affilate and make them work to sell your products! Believe me, you will pay!
