Awesome video! This has helped me a lot. I got my first crested a few weeks ago and I've gotten it to eat 4 crickets first week, a little bit of pangea the second week, and this week she ate 4 wax worms. I didn't know about the water dish so I will be taking that out in hopes she will eat more pangea because so far she seems to be favoring the bugs more then the pangea. But i still put the pangea in her tank everyday so its always available for her. This video was very helpful, thank you!

Thanks for this video,I finally bought a crested and your tips,tricks helped.Its only about 3-4 months old. How much handling is ok at this age?Ive dealt with and handled adult Cresties but never a tiny juvenile...

I use that same plantation soil for my ball python tank. but I have never squeezed the water out of it before adding it to the tank. I mix the soil once a week (when she is feeding) and it never smells bad, actually it smells really good, especially when I mist it it smells like it rained (wet soil). I spot clean the bedding (when she poops I take out the poop and a large chunk of the surrounding bedding). never had a problem with bacteria with that substrate.

+Paul-Dominic Di Marco Hello there, I have a few questions that I don't think were answered (Or maybe I missed). As a novice, would you recommend getting only one to get a feel on how to take care of them? I eventually would like around 4 of them and I was planning on getting a 12"L x 12"W x 18"H Terrarium for the first one and then move her to a 24"H once it's fully grown. With that said, when is it considered a fully grown adult? Thanks in advance and great videos!
@PaulverizerJJ8 жыл бұрын
+lmagine if it's your first Crested Gecko, I'd definitely try starting with one. Who knows, you may decide crested geckos aren't for you, and then if that's the case you only have to sell/rehome one rather than multiple animals. 12" x 12" 18" is ok for about a baby til about 12-14 months. They'll pretty much be adult size by this time. I don't mind housing adult males in 12 x 12 x 18 inches for 4 months out of the year to separate them from the females.

Hello, great video. I did have a question. My apartment tends to run on the cold side so with all my herps, even the ones that can do well at room temp, I tend to keep a thermostat and a heat source on them. This is because it's easier for me to warm them up in a cool room than stabilize the room. What would you recommend for heat regulation? I'm partial to heat mats because I have used them with all my snakes but I'm a bit lost regarding a vertical viv.
@PaulverizerJJ8 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Id go with a small 15 watt heat bulb and nothing more. A crested can climb so if necessary it can bask right underneath the bulb. May as well get a nice moonlight one so that you can leave it on and watch him move around when most active, at night.

I was wondering if I could keep them together when they're grown, then move the male to the smaller tank when breeding season comes around. I have no interest in breeding, and don't want to stress the female, so could splitting them up keep the male from getting fts and if so what time of year do I separate them out? thanks!

this might seem like a silly question; how do you clean the tank with the soil in it? Also, can a reptile tank liner be used? (like the faux grass ect. that are available in pet stores). What percentage of humidity is best? I live in a dry area. Thanks!!
@PaulverizerJJ9 жыл бұрын
Clarissa Metall the coconut fiber (that's what it is, not actual dirt) is supposed to be biodegradable, so I spot clean it and turn it over every few days. I use a razor blade and F10 (Disinfectant & Cleaner) to clean the crap off the glass.
@ClarissaMetall6889 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul-Dominic Di Marco!
@PaulverizerJJ9 жыл бұрын
Clarissa Metall Oh, I also don't like Hygrometers. % Humidity will make you go insane. I live in a dry area also. Summers aren't bad, Winter is 30% humidity. Some say Cresteds need 70%, very hard to do. You spray once, it'll go to 99% and then it dries throughout the day. To maintain 70%+ without living in areas that are naturally that humid, is almost impossible in glass tanks. Spray once every day or two, and its enough.

I'm researching about beginner reptiles, I'm specifically interested in cresties. A few questions: Can cresties thrive off of powder mix without feeding live insects? Which powder mix would you recommend, repashey or pangera? How easy are they to tame/handle? Thank you 😊
@PaulverizerJJ8 жыл бұрын
+Diddydot Dytor Ok here we go:Can cresties thrive off of powder mix without feeding live insects? I would say that yes, they can. Just make sure that the brand you choose is pretty much complete, or add to it. Ex: I recommend feeding growing babies Repashy MRP mixed with plain yogurt. The Yogurt will add a bit of protein an calcium which I feel is important when they're young. As adults I wouldn't do this though, could make them obese. Which powder mix would you recommend, repashey or pangea? I've always been a big proponent of Repashy. I've never had any of their products not work for me. I use all their calcium vitamin supps (HyD,LoD,NoD, etc) and the Gecko MRP (fed to our Cresteds and Chahouas), I also use their gutload (bug burger) and their other gel foods like Meat Pie and Vegeburger. I haven't used Pangea, though all I hear is great things. I'm sure its good. I'm pretty old school though, I got my first Crested 10 years ago and the only powder on the market was Repashy (sold by T-Rex back then). To me, its tried and true. I believe they have a new formula that's specifically called Crested Gecko MRP (A blonde Harlequin gecko on the jar), so I'll give that a try soon as well. How easy are they to tame/handle? As babies they are SUPER flighty/jumpy. Handle them in their cage to avoid losing them. As adults (like most reptiles) they chill out considerably and handling shouldn't be an issue.
@diddydotdytor89998 жыл бұрын
+Paul-Dominic Di Marco Great , thanks for the advice! 😊 I'm looking into buying an adult as I've heard that babies can be a little jumpy. If I am going to get a crestie, it won't be for another few months yet 😃

+Martin Legaspi baby crested are good in 5 gallon sized enclosures until they're about 4 inches long head to tail, at this time go with a 20 gallon tall. They need to eat both insects and fruit their whole lives, but they eat more insects as babies than as adults, in my experience. For fruit, you're best off getting a powder mixed diet as it'll be the most complete option for them.

The terrariums you recommended for adults are nowhere near big enough. People who are receiving this false information are going to unintentionally stress their geckos out which leads to illnesses or death. Yes, just because lack of space.
@No-lk5by6 жыл бұрын
Akeeshan Sivakumar NO!! Definitely not, that is exactly what the person above is saying. A single ADULT crested gecko needs AT LEAST a 18x18x24 terrarium. 24 being the height! Height is always better than length. If you're on a right budget buy a short long terrarium and turn it on its side (so the top is actually the front and one of the narrow sides becomes the top) If crested geckos don't have enough space they can get stressed and develop a number of problems.

Question, what is better to get? A female or a male crestie?
@frankie83907 жыл бұрын
RocketheReptile Both are great as pets. As a breeder you'd be looking to get a male. Although they can't be sexed until almost 6-8months to 1 year.
@rockethereptile83817 жыл бұрын
The Spirit Dreamer not as a breeder but because sometimes females can lay eggs(infertile) and it can be stressful. But with a male you don't have to worry (like chameleons)
@frankie83907 жыл бұрын
I meant "as a breeder" as in you can breed a male with multiple females. So if you plan on becoming a breeder or you're starting it'd be best to have a male and then continue on with females - if you're not purchasing multiples. Yes, of course, the females do lay infertile eggs.
@rockethereptile83817 жыл бұрын
The Spirit Dreamer yes then I do want a male, I'm not sure if I want to breed. I've heard it's a flooded market so I'm not sure...
@frankie83907 жыл бұрын
Both females and males have great personalities and temperaments once they become adults (if kept in proper and good condition) - they aren't as jumpy or bite as much as juveniles. Even then, when and if they bite it doesn't hurt you will barely even realize they did unless you're looking at them while they do it. The great thing about cresteds is there are so many morphs available and available for breeding. You can mix n match and have a lot of fun, or just breed for yourself. Just make sure to really educate yourself before purchasing or breeding and make sure you have the equipment already ready and set up. Good luck!

Well my crested gecko don`t eat CGD ...how can i make him eat CGD ???
@_SugarBee_9 жыл бұрын
I started mine on organic baby food (Apple was especially liked) with calcium powder, stuck his nose in it and once he licked his nose he kept eating, then slowly switch over to a repashy-calcium mix

Do I need to feed them crickets
@PaulverizerJJ8 жыл бұрын
+Dark You can, but you don't have to.
@hannahlarson7738 жыл бұрын
it's preferred to feed mainly CGD, once in awhile insects but they aren't as nutritious as the CGD.

Is 30-30-60 ok
@famoslyritch17 жыл бұрын
Rosedonna purdy That should be perfectly fine as long as the 60 measurement is the height as cresties prefer height rather than length for their enclosures.
@christianhildalgo7 жыл бұрын
Rosedonna purdy 45x45x60 would be better, but 30x30x60 is fine.
@rosedonnapur7 жыл бұрын
Tks I ended up getting 45-45-60. Tks

+Paul-Dominic Di Marco are u stupid?? No! They need vertical space not horizontal
@PaulverizerJJ8 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Temple hey, it's pretty easy to turn a cage on its side. Do that and it becomes a vertical cage. And even then, a wide cage is fine as well. Believe it or not, they jump horizontally not directly upwards and if given the space they will travel side to side not just up and down. I've only been breeding these guys successfully for 6 years. And all of the animals in our collection and that we produced are in great health. You want to call me stupid, but you can't pull your ignorant head out of your ass and realize there is more than one absolute way of keeping animals. Keep doing your thing dude, taking the first care sheet that pops up in your google search bar and taking it as gospel and thinking that any other way of doing it is wrong. Best it, troll.

+Paul-Dominic Di Marco I like your channel and all but I still disagree idk why I called you stupid immature on my behalf but I still believe they will be more happy in a taller tank. They might be healthy in a long but they were be more happy in a talk tank.
