I currently have 1st gen wired doorbell, & I'm going to replace it with new 2nd gen wired doorbell. I don't have a chime at all...the wiring goes from Transformer > Chime Puck > Doorbell, & I have no issues. Can I use this same wiring for the new 2nd gen doorbell as well?

haha, did you get your answer? nope. this is a google channel for a simple instruction video, no one cares as if it was a personal channel. did you figure it out? My guess is yes? As long as you use their add on "capacitor". That's all that thing is, so it provides more of a power supply then the small power normally associated with a doorbell / chime.

My indoor chime is not working. I have a 16V 10VA transformer (intertek model 5019098). The doorbell video and doorbell internal chime works OK. I set the app to Ring indoor chime and electronic chime is set to no ( I have a mechanical chime ). I did try to toggle the electric chime to yes at various durations as this was reported to work for some with mechanical chimes. Any ideas on how to make indoor chime work? Do I need to replace transformer with bigger unit like a 16V 30VA unit ? The chime worked fine using the original doorbell. Home is new construction.

@@netarcSF I got the existing chime to work by swapping out the doorbell transformer from 16V 10VA to a 16V 30VA unit. Installation was very simple. Just flip the breaker and swap it out. Everything works perfect now. Google support was pretty useless.

I made the installation today and everything works fine , only thing is that when I connect the chime connector the the existing chine inside the house it does not give me any sound but is disconnected it works fine the chime sounds work fine and the doorbell sound also works .. any idea why is doing that and also is it safe to keep it with out the chime connector ?

For anyone needing to connect two nest wired doorbells to their home, you may need a more powerful transformer to make them work. After consulting with Google tech support while my electrician was on standby to give the stats and pictures of wiring to no avail, I had to make multiple calls to Google’s tech support before I was transferred to an Advanced tech support who told me to install a 30va transformer. Which means I had to call the Electrician for a third time to my house to replace another transformer. Costs me a small fortune.

Screw that, BUT, if you look at the instructions in this video it said what a single google doorbell calls for... Therefore, your electriction prob should of said hmm, maybe it has to be x2 more powerful to run two? Two doorbells isn't common in most houses so im sure they didn't go out of their to plan for two. I have the Google Nest battery doorbell and, as of Nov 2023, there is a major bug where audio from the doorbell is sent to the headphone output rather than the speaker output on Android devices, meaning I can't hear the person at the door on my phone without plugging in headphones. For everyone getting annoyed about a video for people with now previous wires thej this video is clearly not for you. You need the battery specific doorbell. You have no wires, so why on earth are you watching a video for a wired doorbell. If you need wires installed then you need more thsn this video can offer, maybe an electrician.

@@skylinesenses nope, I assume it's bc my doorbell transformer was the minimum recommended. I just turned the indoor chime off in the app and just using Google minis to announce

@@Andrew-gr4nd thanks for the reply! yes that is most likely your issue. I upgraded my transformer and it solved my issue. google says you can have minimum 16vac 10va, that’s what I had and I upgraded to 16vac 30va and my chime instantly worked. It’s not too difficult to do and took me maybe about 30mins to do. I would recommend a vintage tester as well for safety since you will be working with regular power lines to hook up the transformer. I got the C907 NuTone transformer since it’s a higher quality model than the Amazon recommended one, let me know if you need any help I’d be glad to offer any insight I can!

@@skylinesenses good to know, thank you! My only clue was when I took the case off, the chime part was getting a little power but no enough to hit the bell. Anything electrical makes me nervous to mess with. Sounds like it wasn't too bad, though?

@@Andrew-gr4nd yeah not bad at all, doorbell transformers are pretty standardized and universal, so you literally just match up the wires, very straightforward and there’s some pretty good KZbin videos on what to do exactly, but it’s basically three wires that you just match up the color, I figured the $40 on a quality voltage tester from fluke was worth my life and still a huge savings from paying someone hundreds to do it lol, and yes, my chime was doing the same exact thing where when I pressed the doorbell, the piston barely moved, but not enough to ring the bell, also if I rang the doorbell like a madman, it would ring once, after like pressing it, five times consecutively probably because the voltage with spike just enough to ring the chime. Overall a very easy upgrade and it provides some future proofing for later gen doorbells years from now I hope haha

hi@@madebygoogle sure, let me explain to you. I bought the 2gen doorbell. I wanted to install it with cable. In fact, I've been there for a couple of days. I completed the entire installation with cable, but, when I connected the cables to the back of the doorbell, the doorbell rang all the time. I understand that it is because my doorbell at home does not have a transformer. Finally, I went to a Leroy Merlin store (in Madrid) to buy a doorbell with a transformer. Right now the Google Doorbell is installed in battery mode, but I would like to get the most out of it (connect it with Nest Aware and the rest of the cameras), and therefore connect it with cables. Do you think I should buy a doorbell with a transformer that has Doorbell 2gen compatibility or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Why take away the battery? Battery is good as backup Incase of power outage. Battery version just needed continuous recording like the Google Nest Cams with battery.

This is a new wired version in addition to the battery version. Batteries don't work well in cold weather. They slowly degrade overtime. You have to charge them. And you can't have 24/7 recording with a battery. But battery version gives more flexibility. Having more options to fit more people is always good.

@@NopWorks you can have 24/7 recording on battery and they have this on their Nest Cam battery ones. I have a handful of them and they work great. Battery is for backup power when electricity is shut off. With the 1st version video doorbell with battery there's no 24/7 recording so was expecting v2 to offer this vs completely removing the battery.

The problem with the old one, even when you wired your doorbell to a power source; when the temp drop below freezing, the battery will stop charging... and your doorbell dead! Which is stupid... i am still mad that i have to invest in buy a "mini" to get a chime indoor. It cost average 50 dollars more. I just invested in a new phone because my phone didn't allowed me to instal google home app. I am very angry. My house indoor chime box is from 80s and it do not work with the round device on it. How is possible that china equipment came with indoor chime and google nest not? It is a very expensive product with difficult chime installatiom, no indoor wireless, expensive to hire a technician. This is a scam product!!!! It is very expensive to install it properly. Your indoor chime box must be working well, otherwise you will never listen the doorbell sound inside home. Also make sure your phone can download this app. Otherwise you must buy a new phone
