I have only seen you race when you are in the same split/stream as Ollie (Basic Ollie). I have enjoyed what I have seen, sorry not much of a twitch fan I am afraid. Thank you for putting this video out, I have always been doing this method. The only theing I do differently is I always set my screen distance to 540mm regardless of how far/near it is actually and then set the fov from that and then do the procedure you describe in the video. Apparently 540mm has something to do with the curvature of the eye when looking at screens. Styrian (Race Beyond Matter) can explain it better than myself. Keep yp the good work. Now subscribed.

None of these videos ever show from the drivers perspective. Would be great to have the camera setup as your eye level, looking at the triple screens. I'm always second guessing where my wheel lines up to the in game dash. So many times where it feels ok, I can't see half the dash. My screens are at 60 degree angles and I sit about 690mm from the screens but I never really feel comfortable. I think I watched a Daniel Morad video where he says to turn on the in game wheel, and to move the camera and seating position to a point where your real wheel matches the scale of the in game wheel, or as close as possible. He's the only person I've seen mention this and I wonder if there's anything to it? I'm never sure if I'm supposed to see the in game dash through the gaps in my wheel, or does the dash sit higher than my wheel? Am I supposed to see the front of the bonnet/hood of the car or not? Should I line up the left & right wings of my GT seat with the in game GT seat? Does that even matter? I think there could be a really in depth video for setting up these factors but no-one ever goes further than the very basics.
@Sampsoid Жыл бұрын
Hiya, thanks for the comment and yes I am sure that is something I can work on for an upcoming video. I’ll however try to explain now how to best line things up. First of all as I mention about your shift horizon, this sets you eye level against your monitor setup, I like to have my monitors and seat position set in such a was that my eye hits my monitor in the centre vertically. For my wheel base I have it so my monitors are a few millimetres above the wheel shaft and thus my wheel rim is very close to my screen. Once the above two things are set and your FOV is set correctly (which knows your eye distance to your screen). The alignments should be pretty close but I always like to adjust the height as sometimes it can feel too tall or too short in comparison to the dash. For distance front and back I always tweak to where it feels my rim is very close to the in sim dash and gives the impression that I am holding the virtual wheel (which my rim has replaced). I would hate the sensation of there being two wheel rims. Anyway hope that helps and again I appreciate the comment and I will work on an advanced version where I use an external pov camera.
@Sile Жыл бұрын
I'll definitely take some of that on board and try to apply it to my set up. Thanks for your time! @@Sampsoid

Since virtual wheel position and size may change for each car and your real wheel is fixed I'd recommend forget about using the virtual wheel as reference. Set your fov, and horizon level (eye height) first then try to match distance and height based on a real perspective. My horizon level is +8 meaning my eyes are up from the monitor center that means I might have more dash to show than if monitor was centered. A good other example is the Spec racer ford car, the dash and wheel is much lower compared to others cars, just look the car from outside to get the perspective, in my case even at +8 horizon I set driver's height in a way as I would see in real life and in that way I contemplate just a little small top portion of the dash display in my 27' center monitor.

I noticed your FOV in the blackbox is 197, while in camera setting (control-f12) the static FOV is 106. What i do is i first make sure that the static FOV in camera settings menu is the same with my blackbox FOV (before i adjust the offset x)- in this case they should be both 197. Does it matter?
@Sampsoid Жыл бұрын
Hiya, thanks for the comment. Static FOV only does something if you change it, when you do change it all it does is change your actual fov but once you change your fov again in graphics settings it is once again ignored. No idea why iRacing leave this setting in but I assume for artistic photos and replays etc. But yes if you change your static fov to 25 (for example) it would be super zoomed in, head over to graphics settings and your fov would be set to 25, once fixed and back to say my 197, static fov would still be 25 but your perspective in the car would be back to normal. Hope this helps

I don't quite understand the desire to move your seating position so drastically. The game has been rendered based on you informing it of your location in relation to the screens... I'd be fairly sure it is matching your head quite closely to where it would be located within the car that you are driving, given these cars are all scanned.
@Sampsoid Жыл бұрын
Hiya, yeh it gets it close indeed but everyone has a different seat angle (formula/gt), wheel rim size and variying distances in which there wheel rim is poisitoned from them. My wheel rim for example is less than 2" from my screen, whereas at the Apex sim center where I work the rim is much further back from me but my eye distance is almost the same and thus iRacing wouldnt make any adjustments different.
@The124cbr Жыл бұрын
@@Sampsoid I understand this. IMO the best approach is to turn off the in-game wheel. Yes, simrigs are set once for all cars despite each in game car being slightly different, so you're going to vary from each of those. If you turn off your wheel though, your "view" into the game world will always be from an accurate position accurate, and you'll no longer be concerned about your steering wheel position not matching the display. Short of a small tweak to reveal some in-game instrumentation otherwise hidden behind your actual wheel, I just think you're deviating for no real reason and taking away some of the experience of driving different cars and appreciating the difference of view they offer.
