I carry a waterproof pouch with my phone in it. Use it with windsports tracker app to record session. But as I quite often sail alone the phone is a security blanket also, if all else fails I can call for help and give my gps position. Gonna start taking a piece of downhaul line with me, easy to carry along and could be of great use!

I wear an impact vest which has a big pocket in the front where I can carry a neoprene hood in winter , spare line, an alum key to adjust the tail suspension on my board and food etc. It also has a pocket in the back but it's too small for a camelback. I wish they'd make it bigger. I have to attach the camelback with webbing.

Great info as always, I might try the slider bar, perhaps not having one is why my neck gets very strained sometimes. I do find myself restricted and end up twisting my neck around a lot.....Slider bar means I could use my shoulders and hips more......Thanks for the brilliant information.... I carry nothing with me sailing, pretty much everywhere I go I would just end up on the beach with a gear failure, but I think its a good idea to carry some 4mm rope and a whistle, Im going to add that asap!!

I have also waist 32 and have a Dakine T5 medium. It is very critical, it just fits. I should have had the large as well. Now it squeezes my back too much and I feel battered after an afternoon surfing.

On my harness, I have a kitesurfing knife (in case I get tangled on a kite line, or even fishing line), and my PLB1 locator beacon. I used to carry a whistle too, lost it in one of the catapults, never got another one, but I can whistle pretty loud.

Yep, I've done the spare rope around the spreader bar and it takes a long time to unravel it. I broke the inhaul line. My tip is to have an inhaul line twice the length, with a knot in the middle. Then if it does break, you have a spare line the correct length exactly where you need it. I've only broken an inhaul once in 32 years though.

Yes, as someone noted about knives, I sail where there are many kiteboarders around so I carry a kiteboarder cable cutter - but I also seem to lose them frequently and currently need to buy another one 😡. I bought rope and need to carry it on me but it sits in my van 🙄 ...Rope also to help rescue others where it is useful to be a longer length for dragging someone back - returning Karma for when I was learning... 😁 Have done two rescues so far. I like the idea suggested in the video to stuff the rope in the webbing but wish for a more secure storage option. I also have T9 with no storage pocket! All harness makers should add more storage pockets! Come on Dakine!
@fertysurfer2 жыл бұрын
Plait the rope, leaving a generous loop, and attach it to the webbing. 3 metres becomes 25 cm. It's effectively a crochet knot that takes seconds to both make and undo.
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
Could do the Crockett method as suggested here, or like you saw max do you could go deep in the webbing with a small end exposed. As soon as you wear the harness there’s no chance of it popping out as it’s held in through the harness tension…. You need to use it simply inDo the small knot and pull! 👍

I lost so much belly fat this summer, my M-sized harness became loose. Time for a new 1 if i get back home and the rope and flute is a nice feature. Yesterday i was really blasting it the board was almost flying with the stance you showed for a split second. 6:30 But it takes a big effort to hold that stance with the harness that's locked in position. Is it better to have a locked or sliding harness for a speedster?
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
Good on you getting fit! 👍 Speed sailing I’m looking to be locked in with the hook in the middle- no slider. All round-blasting and freeride I’d chose the slider.

Love the channel, and I’ll click on the Patreon link this week - you’ve supported us in our windsurfing quests, I’m happy to support you back. Have you ever considered doing a longboard video? I sail from the shores of Toronto on Lake Ontario, the gentle summer winds are best enjoyed long boarding (or wing foiling). I’ve been trying to figure when and how to use the big foot straps for beam reaching (like the straps on a Starboard Phantom).

I haven't watched the whole video yet (I will) but your comment re a slider bar got me thinking. I use a seat harness with a fixed bar but I have my harness lines very far apart . I'm thinking that allows me to get a similar benefit to you using the slider bar and narrow lines..? Yours is the modern take? I use a seat harness as I speed sail in flatwater. I use the same harness with long lines when I play in the chop. I weigh 64-68kgs so the seat harness allows me to hold down larger sails.

@@Cookiesports Wouldn't having the lines close together be more sensitive and a hassle with winds that are patchy , gusty and veering?
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
@@horsemadf1 on an old sail- yes… but modern sails are stable, and (when rigged correctly) the COE doesn’t move about much- so having wide lines you have to use more muscle strength to control, having them close you simply move your body weight a little. 👌👌

Hi, Sometimes I take in my harness a wind meter Kestrel 2000. The purpose is to calculate the difference between the estimated “standing on the beach professionals” wind to actual wind 💨 on water. Can you guess ?

Nice harness type, id never saw it before. Question, is there a best position for wearing the Waist harness. Often i had the feeling, the position of my harness is not ideal, because of backpain after a Session. I also not go to the water without my phone in a watertight cover. For tracking Session and to call help in case of an emergency. It was very usefull as i had a broken mastfoot during session on the water. Great contest cookie 👍🤙

My weist harness also slides a bit up during session, i need to push back in the right positio, did you have the same problem?
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
I don’t have that problem if the harness rising… but I’d guess it’d be down to technique it the harness fit- stop sitting in the harness- the lines should pull forward so the harness won’t ever rise.

@@Cookiesports thanks cookie, i know what you mean, i will try not to "sit" next time. Nevertheless i keep the sliding dakine harness in mind, i like it. Damn perfect weather in greece, in germany it is cold and rainy😩 Cheers and enjoy

Lack of pockets on harnesses baffles me. With a dry bag (eg aquapac) it’s somewhere to put your car keys. An easy solution to what’s a really difficult problem. I have an arm pouch, but it slides down my arm constantly. Frustrating!

Dakine had it right- then moved away with their newer models. So annoying!

Great video but why does no one talk about the seat harness and it's pros and cons. For a new windsurfer it would be great to know why you should choose one over the other. I use a seat harness because it was the most comfortable that I tried on in the store. It was close choice I could have easily gone with waist harness.
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
95% of windsurfers should be using a waist harness… lots to explain- but short story is unless you’re full power downwind slalom racing (and possibly even then still) a seat is less effective with power efficiency. 🤙🤙🤙
@horsemadf12 жыл бұрын
@@Cookiesports I find that surprising. As a small speed sailor ( 66kgs - 5' 5" ) I feel the seat harness allows me to carry much bigger sails.
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
@@horsemadf1 try a waist,l for a bit… you’ll become more effective and efficient with the wind available… then will be able to take bigger sails easier and get even more power and speed from them! Hanging onto an unnecessarily big sail will mask technique and stop you improving! 😜
