Omg you are a genius.... I seriously was doing it the wrong way. I was doing it by what the pressure gauge read with no pressure in the gun. I was wondering why my crap is all messed up. It makes total sense to have it while the gun is blowing air out. You are a genius. It's just helped me a million times better

Can I use airbrush pressure regulators on large compressors having a maximum pressure of 150 and 240? Thank you

Just a nitpick, the inner ring shows kg/cm2 and the little blue dots show (BAR)kPa. For our application you can basically assume BAR=kg/cm2.

Thank you. I recently got an airbrush but never made the jump to actually "do it" yet.. This has helped me greatly.. I have a gauge on my air compressor output AND a second gauge on my moisture trap. I assume I should just send FULL PRESSURE from the tank to the moisture trap and then do 30psi from the moisture trap to the airbrush? Or do you think it's best to do it in stages? Say 60psi from tank to moisture trap and then down from 60 to 30 to the airbrush? Or am I just over thinking it?
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 ай бұрын
Awesome to hear that! Yes, most compressors will have 2 gauges but only one of those gauges has an adjustable regulator. The gauge without the regulator knob is the pressure within your tank. These will have an auto shut off feature when the tank reaches its max pressure. I leave that at full pressure. It will automatically refill when the pressure drops. The only adjustment you'll need to make is the one for your working air pressure with the regulator connected to your air hose and airbrush. That is the one you want to set to 30psi (or whatever PSI you are spraying at). Make sure you read the manual for your compressor to follow their recommendations. Hope this helps!
@ColinRichardson

@@theartworkshop Sorry, I used the wrong words... I have 3 gauges in total. I have 2 regulators.. The regulator that controls the output of the compressor+tank. I then have a hose, and I then have a moisture trap, The moisture trap has it's OWN regulator.. The moisture trap is rated to pressures that exceed the compressor+tank can output. So there is no NEED to downpressure before going to the moisture trap, but wondered where it is worth doing the actual regulating.. Up-stream or down-stream or a combination of the two?
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 ай бұрын
@@ColinRichardson I got ya. I actually had a similar setup to that for many years. I did exactly what you are suggesting. I set the regulator on the compressor to somewhere around 40-50 (since I never spray my airbrush above that). Then I used the regulator sitting next to me to adjust as needed. I usually spray anywhere from 15-30 psi depending on the paint and reduction. No need to down step like this, but it's not going to hurt anything if you do.

I just got my Master Cool Runner II (with 3 guns, G22, G25, & E91) and have been studying. I watched your video half way last night before heading off to bed, excited about the delivery today lol... so, I guess I was expecting that you could set it to 57psi while using the gun... , and a while ago I watched a video of a lady with the same air compressor I have. It turns out that's the highest when you're NOT using the gun (57psi). The highest I can get while spraying is 35 with two of my (now 5, 3 brand new) guns, and 30 with 3 of them. Are you aware of the psi difference produced by different guns? I just learned that about 30 minutes ago while testing. Also, are you using a real air compressor (like airing tires, using nail guns, etc)? That's what it looks like in the background Thanks a lot, mate!

I'm a big fan of those small airbrush compressors. I started with one of those too (similar to the model you mentioned) and it's still going strong almost 20 years later. Generally when I am spraying, I prefer a lower psi at around 20-30. I rarely go above 30 psi. A high quality airbrush paint makes a huge difference in performance for spraying at lower pressures. Hope this helps and all the best to you!

I’d suggest getting a oil filled pressure gauge with psi range more in line with your working pressures. Instead of maxing at 180 psi, get a gauge that maxes at 40-60 psi.

Hi thank you for this video Iv been watching lots of your videos lately and you’ve inspired me to have another go at airbrushing portraits, Iv got one question what size of board do you mount your canvas to to paint , I understand they will be different but what size do you commonly use, also could you do a video on how your studio set up is and how you keep your canvas upright. From watching your videos Iv found out lots of mistakes Iv was making , so I’m ordering new paint and I’m going to get some canvas on a role to follow your example, did you say what type of canvas is the best to use ? Thanks again for your videos you make it more interesting and informative and easier to understand,

thank you. Generally I paint my portraits around 24x20". Sometimes larger because I find it easier to get details in that way. I paint on generic 15oz cotton duck canvas. I just buy it it large rolls and cut off what i need. Studio setup video someday I hope! I just screw the canvas into the wall using small corner L brackets and wall screws& anchors. I'm sure you can see them in most of my videos. hope this helps.

Really appreciate all your videos so thank you. Just a question if possible? I'm in the UK and struggle to find any frisket may I ask what brand you use? I usually use clear transfer tape but that can be brutal when pealing it some paint can come with it even when using a med tack. Thanks jay
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
thanks man. I'll use any frisket I find on sale, it all works well for me. But my favorite is the one made by artool that is matte and comes on a roll. If your transfer tape is too tacky just lay the sticky part on a towel, your shirt, or whatever fabric is near you. it'll pick up the fibers from that and reduce the tack. Thats what i do
@JayJay-vr1rh
@JayJay-vr1rh Жыл бұрын
@theartworkshop I'll give it a go I use a medium tack transfer at 100m that seems more low tack as can come away with the blow from the brush. I'll give that a try with the stronger one. Would you let the paint cure for a day or so before putting it over it? Thanks

When it reads 0 is it spraying air? At 0 psi no air should be coming out of the airbrush. could be a broken gauge.

@@theartworkshop Hi Thanks for replying yes at 0 it is spraying air when i release it goes back to 25 PSI on the dial, the guage is built into the body of the compressor so not sure i can change it its a 6l wolf cub i bought on amazon it could be user error or could be not a great compressor.

Hi, at 0:15 i feel you may have reversed knob direction, isn't it turn left (CCW) to increase pressure and right (CW) to decrease ? Thank You
@chzel
@chzel Жыл бұрын
No, usually in such regulators you are screwing a screw to add preload to a spring that controls the valve. So to tighten the screw (and increase pressure) you turn it CW.
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
interesting! I have a few regulators and they are all like this. Maybe there are others that are reversed, not really sure. Regardless of which way you turn the knob, I just wanted to show that you need to be spraying air to set it correctly.

no bother at all! When you turn the switch on do you hear the compressor? It's usually like a rumbling sound- sometimes pretty loud. Because it might be that there is a leak somewhere and the air isn't going to the hose like it is supposed to be. If it has a moisture trap, make sure the valve at the bottom of it is closed so that air isn't leaking out. Could def be a broken compressor though.
