Thanks for the HDMI setting guide. But I have a strange question, according to your video and other guy's info. HDMI 1& HDMI2 would support Dolby Vision if it was set in enhanced mode, right? But I've tested yesterday on my A80EK. I found that Dolby Vision didn't work on HDMI 1 or 2 with enhanced mode, it could only work on HDMI3 or HMDI4 when using enhanced(Dolby Vision) mode. Do you have any idea about this?

Thanks a bunch. My PS5 kept saying tv didn’t have all the features it had. I was about to go out and buy a new HDMI cable thinking it couldn’t be anything else till you showed how to enable certain settings.

I don't understand why Sony is leaving the door open for LG to get all of the gamers especially since they produce the PS5. I really like Sony TVs and wish they would have 4 4k/120 hz inputs on their TVs. I'm almost at the tipping point of getting a LG OLED to game and watch Sunday Ticket on it. I'm going to give Sony another year to add the 2 4K/120hz inputs. If they don't do that next year, then I'm going to consider an LG OLED or a short throw projector for my basement setup. Really appreciate you making this tutorial for your audience. Keep the tutorials coming!

Thanks Techno Dad. I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why I was not seeing Dolby Vision on my Sony XR-65A80J. I had set up my Panasonic DP-UB820 correctly, and I also checked the settings on my Denon AVR-X3700H, but I just could not see Dolby Vision on my system. But your video helped me to correctly set the HDMI 3 properly for Dolby Vision. Once I did that, everything worked!!!!! Thank you, Techno Dad!!!!

@@TechnoDad I have this menu (model below) and set it to Dolby Vision...I have an Apple TV 4K and it should be DV for Disney+ content. I dont see it says Dolby Vision when i click the "123" button. It does say it in the picture settings menu though. WHy doesn't it show the DV logo in the upper right hand corner like in the past?

One very important note for users of Sony surround sound receivers (I'm working with the Sony STR-DH790, the latest flagship model): you must ALSO switch the HDMI inputs on the receiver to ENHANCED mode from the default STANDARD mode. If you do not, then you cannot pass 4K/60p/HDR video through the receiver to the television set. I discovered this when I tried to play Gemini Man, on whose UHD Blu-ray disc is printed 3840x2160p60 Dolby Vision BT.2020 4:2:0 YUV 10-bit, aka "4K 60Hz with Dolby Vision". This format cannot be delivered to the television set unless you also set the receiver's HDMI input to ENHANCED. Furthermore, if you connect your PS5 or XBOX into the TV's HDMI 4 with Enhanced VRR mode, you'll want to enable eARC in both the television set AND the receiver (plus enabling digital audio passthrough on the TV) so that the console's 8CH PCM can be delivered intact to the receiver without being processed by the television set.

Really cool design for this video TD 👍 One asterisk though, port 3/4 set to just "enhanced" is 4k 120hz with lower input lag than setting it to VRR. So if playing a game that doesn't really need VRR or if running the Xbox at 120hz for 60fps games, you can use "enhanced" for the lowest input lag.

For dolby vision i turn the light sensor off brightness and contrast at max gamma -2 hdr tone mapping brightness preffered black level 50 gamma -2 advanced contrast -high peak luminance high color temp-cool color at 60 live color high sharpness-50 and smooth gradation at high i tried it on dolby vision bright and i felt like that was the most accuarte calibration i could find for dolby vision

Amazing video Channa, you couldn’t explain this any better. I appreciate you taking the time doing this since this was my question from your previous videos. It’s unfortunate that the Sony tv can’t just have all hdmi signals in one setting like the le tv or Samsung that do all that stuff automatically, maybe one day Sony will condense them into 1. Since I never been used to connecting my ps5 to tv does that mean that the audio output device in ps5 audio settings have to be set to an amplifier or TV? If the output device is TV since that’s what it’s technically connected to do you also set the hdmi device type to TV since it’s using ARC/EARC for audio or do you set it to AV amplifier regardless. I thing i notice is when I have the switch output device automatically toggle on and I had set everything to tv. Whenever I restart or turn on console it switches it back to AV amplifier for both output device and hdmi device type. I’m so confused that I just let it do what the ps5 wants to do but I do set the audio format to Dolby because people say lpcm is better but in my case and heard others say that Dolby sounds louder and better. Btw I have the RZ onkyo and I do feel like I could’ve just bought a cheaper receiver that’s 9.2 that don’t support VRR since the tv does the job for the console so defeats the purpose of having all the bells and whistles of your a Sony tv owner and refuse to go with any other brand. Anyways keep up your great videos i been subscribed to your channel for years cuz you always provide top notch AV information.

If using eARC you can get the benefits of Dolby Vision, 4K 120Hz and others on HDMI 1 and 2. I am using a Shield on HDMI 1 and I get DV, 4K 120hz and HDR 10 while eARC is being used

Great, clear video. I have one question. Do you or anyone else have any issues with the tv dimming itself after a minute or so? I only noticed it (so far) on Warzone 2 but its super nice and bright but then after a while it slowly dims itself and only comes out of it if I go to the main menu and back in. I'm guessing its to prevent burn in but its completely OTT and ruins the picture, can you even turn that off?

This is a great video ! It was confusing for us old folks but I hooked my Cox cable mini box to the hdmi 4 because of the 4K 120hz I also got a 2.1 hdmi cable too I hope that’s okay because this stuff ain’t easy as they say to hook up. We are loving our A80K !

Great video! I was starting to get real frustrated trying to setup my A80K (my first OLED). This saved the day! One question, if you take questions that is. In the External inputs menu, there is an "external device setup" option. What would I use that for? When I selected my two of my devices, and selected 4K, it told me to plug both options into HDMI3 which did not make sense.

You're the man Techno Dad!!! I've just finally picked up delivery the other day of one of the last 65" A80Js left in Australia. Can I assume a similar set up will work for my earlier model? Is there any advice as to what might be best to use HDMI port 4 for as we aren't gamers. Our set up includes Samsung Q990b Soundbar - I know this one uses HDMi 3 for earc, a Panasonic UB820 4K Blu Ray Player, and a Cable Box that is now offering some limited 4K content. I'm still confused as to what devices go where in terms of obtaining maximum benefits of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos but your guide is so helpful. Thanks for explaining this, from 5:00 is exactly what i needed to get fixed. I have the xr-48a90k and the menu is almost the same. I would’ve thought that the tv would recognize and adjust everything automatically though.. Since my console is the ps5, I thought sony devices would’ve communicated better. Thanks! Tbh i was not impressed with the factory setting for dolby vision on sony a90k colors are way too warm i prefer vivid mode for the best colors on a sony tv but just my opinion. Any settings or tips for calibrating dolby vision on a sony oled. However i didnt use any of these settings for games just used the factory settings for dolby vision on netflix and disney etc! I’ll have to try this thanks

I just bought X85K Sony TV, I have also AVR MARANTZ SR6015 plus PS5 . Before my ps5 was connected through AVR Marantz but now Sony supports tech was told me to conect ps5 straight to TV to HDMI port 4 , 4K 120 hz and my AVR to HDMI 3 eARC/ARC 4K 120 hz , is that correct and which option I should use as hdmi input

Why don't you use the optical port for the sound bars?

In my Sony hdr it’s not working when using my denon x3800h receiver with nvidia shield and Panasonic UB820K and I can’t figure it out, if I connect them directly to the tv hdr works just fine, I just got the denon replace but still has the issue

Thank you so much I’ve been going through this the last few days figuring this all out myself sadly. You just confirmed everything I researched to be true unfortunately. I have the c1 and it can do 4K 120 with vrr and Dolby. So frustrating all the limitations of this tv. None of the Sony TV’s can do this. Is there any talk of a update to be done to implement this? I have both TV’s and am considering switching them so I can play my Xbox properly again

Hi Mateo! If you’re looking for a TV that has all the gaming features, LG is the only option. I have the C1 and the C2 and I think the only other TV that beats the C2 is the Samsun S95B. The only issue with that TV is no Dolby Vision. It’s been a mixed bag with TVs and Sony still can’t get more than two HDMI 2.1 ports in 2022.

@@mateosgotto8241 Sony has a contract with MediaTek for their SoC. The only chip they have with 4 HDMI 2.1 ports is for 8k. Although they do have chips that support 3 HDMI 2.1 ports but that'll make the tv more expensive. And since the tv's are already expensive as it is, its probably because of cost

If you setup the Xbox on port 4, how are you getting sound through the avr? Don't you have to have the Xbox connected through the reciever?

Hi! That’s an inefficient setup as you will constantly have to change from Enhanced Dolby Vision to Enhanced VRR every time you want to play the console. Unless it’s an older console and you just leave it on Enhanced Dolby Vision all the time.

I just purchased the new Apple TV 4k 3rd gen. I was told to purchase a 2.1 ultra speed hdmi cable. I also have a Sony X90K tv. I have my system connected to my eArc port which is Number 3 port. Would you suggest connecting my Apple TV 4 K into my 4th port since I have a 2.1 hdmi with it?
