Late to the party with this video but you basically do the exact thing I do for my little colony! It’s interesting but I’d never seen anyone else do this it just always made sense to me. The only slight difference is that I include a sprinkling of the bedding from their old tank so that the smell is in there still a little. It stops the boys from spraying pee everywhere lol. It may be different because you’ve had them neutered but anyway this was a wonderful watch thank you!

I’ve taken care of 11 mice and it’s worth doing even though you do go through all the end of life care for them. They are just babies and some of them show you they were angels the whole time. The best thing we can do for them is baby some more mice and learn how to be better for the next time. I need number 12 to complete the dozen o.o but I have to wait.

I have three female mice, about nine weeks old. When they are in a smaller box, they are quite bold, they come onto my hand and are not afraid. However, when they are in their cage, where the lower level is like a small paradise for them with burrows and tunnels, they are reluctant to come to a human hand. If I let them on the floor, where they have more freedom, they become half-wild in their behavior, running around and not wanting to see a human hand. I manage to get them back mainly by luring them into a cardboard box. Of course, I got them about three weeks ago, but still - what could I do to improve my relationship with them? It's troublesome and time-consuming to get them out of the cage very often, I do it every other day.
@Emiology
@Emiology Жыл бұрын
Mine are the same, I just let them be mice and find joy in them enjoying their enclosure. With time they’ll learn a routine and that you bring a nice snack every day at a certain time and if you start giving their daily food even in the palm of your hand at the same time they should start coming out more but it takes a lot of patience. If you have cork logs in their enclosure these can be a good way of catching them to get them out into a smaller enclosure to handle

I wish I could have an enclosure as neat and as full as this for my gerbils.... but they just throw their bedding around way too much and everything gets sunken and covered in bedding. Maybe one day when I get a bigger space and can have multiple enclosures at a time, i'll be able to decorate my encultures as nicely as this.
@Laura_Suzanne
@Laura_Suzanne 9 ай бұрын
How big is your enclosure? You can use bendy bridges as space dividers to hold bedding back from certain areas. This is usually how I keep a small area around their running wheel clear of substrate so my mice cannot bury the bottom of their wheel.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I've also had three mice die very recently, and they were all very young (less than 6 mo), and they would die within 24 hours of exhibiting symptoms (lethargy, coldness). I have one girl left and I want to intro her to more mice, but I'm afraid it's a disease and I don't want to spread it to others.

That’s very odd! It sounds like torpor but that’s usually something that happens in winter when the conditions in your house are cold. Have you checked their water supplies still works? I would be concerned after 3 it was something contagious but there’s no way of knowing unless an autopsy was done on one of the ones that passed away, your new girl will still need friends but I’d probably quarantine her for 2 weeks before doing that just to be safe
@beccagrace5925
@beccagrace5925 Жыл бұрын
@@Emiology Thank you for the reply!! Yeah it don't think it's torpor because I keep the room at 70-72F year-round. They have both a water bottle (that works) and a water dish. The weird thing is that their deaths were spaced out by almost a month. Each time I thought I was in the clear, one would die. So I may quarantine Opal for a month? Thanks for you input!!
