James Great Material! the cables that go from controller to the shelfs are SAS each with 4 lanes of 6Gbps, no SATA ;)

The concept of LUN , ie what is offered up to the OS (VMware, Windows ect) are is most SAN's that I have worked with, then there is normally a logical setup under that so the flex volumes, these will have whatever name the vendor has chosen. Then there is normally a physical setup this might be combined with the logical layer this is where we say how many physical disk are used. Netapp is the only vendor I have worked with that breaks this physical layer into RG,DISK and aggregate, so to answer your question there is normally at least 3 layersLUN = gets the best from the OSLogical = gets the best from the SAN softwarePhysical = get the best from the hardware

hi does the concept of disk, RG, aggregate, flex volume and lun universal to all SAN products? Or do they only apply to netapp?

Hi james I am searching for part 5 physical setup net app.

+prasath basava Hi, Ya really sorry about that, basically whenI did these videos it was just before configuring the unit as a live system where I work ( I did them to help others out). This was great as I could do the videos with no "live setting" however on reviewing the physical setup video I shot I realised that it could compromise the integrity / security of our data centre and wasn't worth risking my job. I hope to decommission a Netapp soon and possible could do a physical setup from that. Cheers James

1033c3301 Dude, un-pussify your ears. He is providing all of us this wonderful and useful information in his own spare time and free of charge. Get over it.

+James Sillett Thanks for yor video but sometimes your britsh accent gets in the way. Too much 'nasal effects' lol making it hard to understand. for instance what you say the console(light) what does Dell and HP call it? And you clearly didn't answer the question to the missing part 5 video. Keep you answers simple please... Thank you once again. Do you ever work with DELL SAN's what do they call them? You introduced a new term called LUN but failed to explain it. What are the common SAN models used in an enterprise environment? Furthermore: For instance, in an enterprise environment installing and troubleshooting SANs (Best practice) Performing switch add/zoning. Installing and troubleshooting Virtual SAN, SnapView/MirrorView Thanks in advance!
