Hi I love your video, I recently set up a woodroach colony, but after two weeks, I notice some dead woodies in the bottom of the container, is that normal or there's something wrong? mine is 120L container, have heat mat, dry and carrot, I bought nearly 1000 mixed size of woodies as starter as I wanna feed my reptile earlier.

How often do you clean the tub? Is it just a scoop of the bottom, or do you transfer them to a brand new tub each time? Some say only put enough carrots/apples that they can finish in 1 hour, otherwise it gets too moist and they can die. Can you leave carrots in for longer?
@CookiesCritters2 жыл бұрын
I do a weekly tub change. It’s simply moving the egg crate into a new tub to transfer the woodies depending on the size of the colony, I will feed either half to a full carrot once a week. I generally remove the uneaten carrot at the end of the day. Don’t leave the carrot for too long otherwise the moisture will kill the woodies.

hey mate.. great recording.. so are woodies and dubai roaches the same thing.. i hear it all the time on international recordings but i think we only have woodies here... so same same? also i have been looking for "red runners"? i can find anyone or anything that easily explains the differences.. some people literally say they feel dubai to one animal then a red runner to anyone in feeding vids... I'm a bit lost...thanks in advance.

Dubias are Blaptica dubia from South America, and Woodies aka Lobster roaches are Nauphoeta cinerea from North Africa. Two different species of roaches.

Unfortunately you cannot buy Dubia roaches in Australia. They would have the potential to become another pest.

So if your woodies eat (dog food) then the bearded dragon eat the woodie, that’s safe??

Great one Ian, is there a ratio of Male to Female when starting / introducing a colony.??

1male to 3-5 females. Too many males can stress the colony

A minimum would be about 100. You can go up to 500 per tub.

What woodies to start the colony
@CookiesCritters3 жыл бұрын
Places like Nash woodies, petwave and a few others stock fluon in Australia. I recommend between 300-500 woodies in a 70L container. Too many and the humidity from their waste will kill the whole colony.
@Kyanite16263 жыл бұрын
How do you stop them from flying? I am scared to breed them as they may enter the house.
@CookiesCritters3 жыл бұрын
Wood roaches don’t have normal flight even though they have wings. It is more so a mechanism to slow down their fall. If you breed them in a deep tub, paint fluon around the top of the tub and have mesh covering the cut out of the lid, the woodies won’t escape.
@brianbusch87773 жыл бұрын
But they can do a jump and flutter. Easily can manage 3-6 inches in height from jumping and fluttering

Unnecessary for the coating. They can’t climb actual smooth plastic. But very useful for other species that can climb true flat surfaces

@brianbusch87773 жыл бұрын
Oh one last thing, don’t feed them dog or cat food. That causes a build up of uric acid in your roaches which gives your reptiles gout. You want 18% or less protein. Chicken feed is popular in America. Just no add meds, DM Earth or pesticides etc
@CookiesCritters3 жыл бұрын
