Thank You.... I have been looking high and low for someone to show or tell me that I can use both the NVR's POE camera ports as well as adding a POE switch to add additional camera's... I'm now a subscriber to your channel. I needed to add 2 inside cameras and 2 out side cameras to a second building that will be linked by a point-to-point GB wifi bridge. I was about to give up when I saw your video, you made my day....

So helpful and self explanatory. In my case, I have a PoE switch and an NVR but without a router. How do I configure the switch to serve this purpose. Each time I plug the camera to the NVR, it comes up but when I plug the cameras to the switch (and NVR to the switch on the appropriate ports) the cameras won't come up.
@ENSSecurity

You will need a laptop or a computer that you can plug it to the PoE switch. Install the software that comes with the IP cameras and uses their Utility setup tool to setup each IP camera. for example, if you have 5 IP cameras you can assign the following information. IP: 192.168.1.10 to 14 (Each IP camera has a different IP) Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (All IP cameras have the same SUB) Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (All IP cameras have the same) the NVR set it with the IP 192.168.1.15 with the same SUBNET and same gateway. Once you had setup the ip address settings on each IP camera and on the NVR then you will add the IP cameras manually using the Manual add function on the NVR. Hope this helps. =)

Hello Luis. The Wifi Cameras most likely will be connected to the Router. The NVR and PoE switch will also be connected to the router. If everything is on the same network then you shouldn't have a problem adding the IP cameras top the NVR.

If i understand this correctly, can I run all 8 of my PoE cameras to a PoE switch and then run one (1) cat5 network cable from the switch to my NVR and run another cat5 cable from the PoE switch to the router? This would help having to run 8 seperate network cables to the back of my NVR.

As long as using the same product line, the NVR will push video settings to the camera. Your mileage may vary if using the third party, but generally: if the NVR allows you to change, it will likely get pushed to the camera

If the poe switch gigabit uplink is connected to the nvr lan port, where would I plug in the router in this case as the lan port on the NVR is already used for the switch connection? Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late reply. You can connect the NVR to any of the ports in the switch. the UP-Link port on the switch connect that to the router. Basically, from the Router get a CAT5/6 and connect it to the UP-Link on the PoE Switch and then connect the Cameras and NVR to the PoE ports on the switch.

@@ENSSecurity No worries. Thanks for the reply. That makes sense then. My issue I did not mention is that I do not have router access in the garage and vaulted ceilings between. I only have one cable between the two areas of my house. The POE switch that comes with the kit I'm considering is only T10/100 ports for the cameras and one gigabit uplink port. Would this work? I already have a 24 port switch with 48gbps switching power that I use for my home network. I currently only use 8 of those ports. If I connect both the garage poe switch gigabit port and the NVR gigabit port to my existing 24 port gbps switch, will the NVR recognize the cameras?

@@chuckhowland5146 the set up above worked really well. All I had to do was add a cheap regular $15 gigabit switch in the middle of this setup. So my garage has four cameras connected to a p o e switch. A wire comes out of the poe switch in the garage, runs the length of my house down into the basement, then plugs in to the $15 gigabit switch. Then I plugged the NVR internet port into that regular switch and my router into that regular switch. My four wired cameras at this end of the house will reach the basement and they plug directly into the NVR.
@duke69111

I did it this way on my neighbor set up as his was similar to mine except he didn't already have a 24-port switch. I went ahead and used the 24-port switch that I already had in the basement and didn't need to buy the extra 5 Port switch for my setup.

Dear customer, are you talking about the NVR that has POE function? The built-in PoE creates its own internal network for displaying cameras. Anything on external PoE will be on the general network. This is normal. NVR does not do any routing between the two networks but since the NVR is also on the LAN, you would, therefore, get camera feed access by logging into the NVR.

if you run power to every camera you have then a switch would work. BUT if you get a POE switch you can power the cam and transfer your date via one single Ethernet cable. As for power supply look and see how many total watts it takes to run your cams, then buy a poe switch to match your needs.

Thanks for this great video. I have 1 question. When I connect the cameras to the NVR PoE ports, the cameras are located in their own network segment (10.x.x.x). So the cameras are not directly accessible from my home network (192.168.x.x). To access the camera web interfaces, I have to go through the NVR. I like that since the cameras are hidden behind the NVR and the cameras 4K traffic are not overwhelming my home network. I'm guessing when you connect the cameras to the switch, they will be on the same network segment as everything else on your network. My question is: how can I do the same thing with the external PoE switch? Meaning, how do I put them on their own separate network segment?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you are using an external switch, you would not want to chain a switch into the built-in PoE since the built-in PoE only expects there to be cameras plugged in and unexpected things can happen due to the Plug-n-play command. If you would like the cameras to be on their own network - the best thing to do would be to use a recorder that has two LAN ports. One LAN you would use your normal 192.168.x.x address and can use this port for remote access. The second port you would set to a different address scheme (172.16.x.x, for example) and then manually assign the addresses to the cameras and then add them to the recorder.

Hello Cenk, Any NVR that has Build-in POE ports the voltage is always 48V.. You need to find an IP Camera that supports PoE. If your IP Camera supports PoE then you can buy any type of IP Camera as long as the IP Camera Specs supports PoE. Then the Last thing you will need to check is the compatibility of the IP camera to your NVR. if you buy third party IP cameras make sure they are ONVIF Compliant and your NVR also supports ONVIF Protocol.

Yes, you can mix NVR with Switch. However, the total channels that the NVR can record are limited to the spec. If it is a 16CH NVR, it means it can only record 16 channels. Usually, the NVR has one or two extra ports for the internet or switch. For example, if it is a 16CH PoE NVR, it might have 17 RJ45 jacks, the 16 jacks are for the IP cameras, and another jack is for the internet or switch.

@@johnpaulpanton5403 The NVR is a recorder, it can only record whatever the system's spec. If it is a 16CH NVR, it can only record 16 cameras, and for the extra cameras, you have to find another way to record it. However, if your purpose is for remote viewing only, you can do unlimited cameras as long as the IP addresses of cameras do not conflict with each other. So, according to your question, if the NVR can support up to 32 channels, you can record 16 cameras connecting to NVR and the other 16 cameras connecting to the switch. However, if you use a 16 channels NVR with the same topology, then you can only record 16 cameras. And to those 16 channels, they can be some from the cameras connecting to the switch, and some from the cameras connecting to the NVR.

Do you have to have internet to do this setup? Could I just buy a NVR and a switch and setup the camera system that way?

Hello Cord T, You only need internet if you are planing to watch your cameras remotely from a different location.. But if you only want to watch at home then you dont need to have internet service.

I have 4 x 4 MP Dahua Camera's and bought a Random NVR with 4 POE ports but it doesn't seem to detect the camera's. Would I need a Dahua NVR for the plug and play feature? Or Can I set them up with the existing NVR I have
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 7 жыл бұрын
Because the NVR is not Dahua you first need to connect your laptop to the same POE Switch and run the software called "Config tools" to be able to find the IP cameras and set the ip address manually on the network. Once the ip address has been set on each IP camera you can add the IP cameras manually on your NVR. Make sure your NVR has ONVIF Protocol as well as the IP Cameras. if the NVR does not support ONVIF you might not be able to set the IP cameras on your NVR. Best of Luck.

If I get a Dahua NVR would I be able to plug and play without setting the IP address manually to the cameras since it should detect the cameras itself?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 7 жыл бұрын
If the Dahua NVR has Build In PoE ports the answer is yes just plug and play. if the Dahua NVR does not have Built-in PoE you might still have to do the configuration manually, But as my understanding Dahua can scan and detect the ip cameras on the network and the NVR can set them up with just a few clicks.

I'm looking at a similar situation. I'm looking at getting a night-owl system with bnc connectors. Wouldn't I be-able to purchase a ONVIF Compliant switch, and plug it into the RJ45 port on the nvr, and run the switch to the router? I have a generic ptz camera that is ONVIF, however it doesn't appear to be compliant with night-owl. would this setup work, and still record to the night-owl nvr? also I will have a second router bridged to the main router, so the whole camera system will be on it's own network.

Then what you need to do is have 12VDC power to power on the IP camera. if your NVR does not have PoE ports and you don't have a PoE switch then the IP camera needs to have power separately. Most IP cameras have a plug for 12VDC. You will need to connect the NVR to the router and the IP camera also to the router. Reminder, The ip cameras need to have a source of power.

Hi Brian, You should look under the Record Settings, Some times its called Encode or Encode Parameters. The resolution should be 1920x1080 or usually for 1080P another name is also 2MP ( Megapixel )

can we connect nvr and dvr in single display unit ?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 6 жыл бұрын
If the Display monitor has an HDMI and a VGA you can connect the NVR and DVR to it but you have to switch between input signals. you cannot have the NVR and DVR on one display an expect to display all cameras from both units on the display. You are able to do so by having a Computer and using the CMS software of the DVR and NVR units, both devices must be the same brand so you can have both DVR and NVR cameras on your computer screen when watching it remotely. hope this helps

What if the network has an additional router at a different location of the building ? Can I than run the Poe switch at the different router location ? Than simply plug the nvr into the other router ? Will they communicate properly ?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 5 жыл бұрын
If you have a different router at a different building that is completely not the same LAN. simply Set all ip cameras for remote view and add them individually to the NVR by using the ip address and the ports specified by each camera if more than one. Remember that CAT5/6 has a distance limitation. 100M (Around 300ft). IP camera Sample CAM1= 192.168.1.10 Port 8000 CAM2= 192.168.1.11 Port 8001 CAM3 192.168.1.12 Port 8002 and so on. Now on the NVR you will add the External IP of that specific router where the IP cameras are connected: lets say for example 68.154.13.2 so on your NVR you will add all the IP cameras with the same IP but specify the ports for each camera:

Can we connect two different switch to nvr system ?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 6 жыл бұрын
Yes you can connect multiple PoE switches in a daisy chain mode, meaning if you have 2 PoE switches the first PoE Uplink will be connected to the Router and the Second PoE switch Uplink can be connected to any port on the First PoE switch or the secondary Uplink Port on the PoE Switch if it has one. If you have multiple PoE Switches in different locations of the building, Each Uplink you can connect it to a regular Network Switch as long as the switch is connected to the router.

Whats the difference between a NVR and DVR?
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 6 жыл бұрын
NVR uses IP cameras that have higher resolution than the Analog HD cameras. for example a HD analog camera ranges from 720P to 1080P resolution. But the IP cameras ranges from 720P to 4K resolution thats 4 times bigger than 1080P. also on an NVR you can connect upto 256 IP cameras ratter than 32 on an DVR.

@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 6 жыл бұрын
Anything that you connect to a router would be in the same network. The router is responsible for assigning IP addresses to every device that is connected to it.

@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 7 жыл бұрын
Yes its possible but is more work. If you dont have PoE Ports on the back of the NVR or have a PoE Switch, then you will have to power all your IP cameras with individual 12V DC power supplies and connect all the CAT5 Cables from your IP cameras to a regular Network Switch.

@ENSSecurity

Yes, But most routers only have 4 Network Ports on the back the most. for this you need a Network Switch. Network Switch are not Routers, they only expand the ability to connect more devices to your network.

The overall Distance for the Camera to Send the Video to the NVR when is connected to the Built-in PoE Switch would be around 300 Feet. The Overall Distance that the PoE Switch can push the power and send and receive data from the camera is also 300 feet. So your answer would be Either way. If you connect the IP cameras to the build-in POE of the NVR you can run that cable 300 feet, sames as if you connect the IP camera to the PoE Switch.

EasternCCTV (USA) LLC | Professional Security System Wholesaler Hi. Bro i have some confusions about POE i heard that POE drops voltage after 100 metres distance. It works efficiently under 100 metres. I would like to enquire about that the 100 metres distance would be considered from Camera wire to POE or from POE to Nvr. OR it would be considered dually from camera to POE 100 metres and 100 metres from POE to NVR?

Configration of ip camera plz
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, The configuration of an IP camera might be different from the IP camera that you Might have, the concept its the same. 1st, use the CD or software that came with the IP Cameras to scan and provide a Local IP address to each camera OR user the NVR interface to Find them "if the NVR has the search IP Feature" 2nd once providing an IP Address to each IP camera then you can add them Manually to the NVR. we would do a video of this configuration but it might be different unless you have our line of IP cameras. Best of luck.

He starts off wanting to connect 16 cameras by adding a switch. But the switch only has 8 ports, only 7 of which are available. So 3 cameras go to the 3 available ports on the 4 port NVR, then 7 cameras go to the available 7 ports on the 8 port switch. That makes only 10 cameras, so where do you connect the other 6 cameras. Up your bum mate ? ? ?

Hello, I see some nvr units only have 1 rj-45 port but utalize wifi connection. I have 2 ip cameras and i have a poe switch. Could my switch carry over to the nvr rj-45 both my cameras? They were set up to my qnap nas but the cpu was getting very high usage (80 -93%) and was getting worried! I also don't want a loud fan wurring away to loud as the set up is in n our living area. I hope you can please give me your input, thank you!
@ENSSecurity
@ENSSecurity 5 жыл бұрын
The Software uses high CPU usage. You might need to contact Qnap for help. The NVRs that only have one RJ45 port you will always need an external PoE switch to power on the IP cameras. or if you have the IP cameras already with 12VDC power then there is no need to have an external PoE switch. YES any switch can carry all devices. SO you will need to connect it like this. 1. NVR to Router, PoE Switch to Router, IP cameras to PoE switch. OR NVR and IP cameras to PoE switch and the PoE switch to the Router.
