How to Setup and Rig a Drascombe Lugger

I let the video roll largely for this video as I think watching someone work stuff stuff and bumble along can also be quite helpful to the novice. I also ramble on a lot about stuff that may pass on a few tips!!
Anyway here's how you set up the boat with all the sheets/lines etc, or at least how I do it. When I got the boat it was a little confusing how things went together and the Drascombe manual was helpful bit not fully helpful to me!
Hopefully this will help anyone with a Lugger out there.

@@markbyford123 Oh thats great news. The Lugger is such a lovely boat you know. Lugger, Coaster or Longboat, I think they would all feel the same and are such forgiving boats to sail. Let me know how it goes.

Very nice vid thanks. I am very new to boats and have only spent time on a lugger like this. Is there a reason you have the stopper knot on the main sheet block starboard? Rather than coming back under the bar to the cleat? 14:40ish

Hi chuchu. Many thanks for the question. TbH no reason other than I have no cleats. I think the mk1 lugger had that set up with the mainsheet but the mk2 just uses a stopper knot. Same as my Mirror dinghy. I think every Lugger I have seen has had some kind of tweak or change made to it, so as long as it works, five it a try!

What a nice boat! How is it without out the sails?

Fine, still very sea worthy. The epropulsion is a bit underpowered on the lake and can plain struggle if the winds are up. On the sea with a 6hp petrol outboard she will go along very nicely.
