@@2HAMMERS1 This is not good advice - I'm sure its well intentioned but his set up is simply awful. Wish people who don't know what they are doing left the advice to those that do. Its does more harm than good, however well intentioned. His cable set up is a perfect example of how not to set up. Really, i don't think he missed anything off the "don't do" list.

Glad I came across this. I just picked one up from a friend needing money. Decided to mix some mics onto my drums. I also caught the fact you lose stereo when using male to male but that is easily fixed. Thanks for the start up....

@Mozart1220 I agree. I've had my mixer for years and didnt even realise my xenyx 2222fx came with a USB connection box thingy. I hooked it up recently and found it to be very noisy. Needless to say I went back to my usual method of left & right RCA(Phono) connection from the mixer into a small single stereo jack on the line-in of my Yamaha SW1000XG Soundcard. Originally I had a Sound Blaster AWE32 with Yamaha DB50XG daughterboard plugged in, I've still got them too! Those were the 486 days.

I find it slightly noisy for recording, but maybe that's just the way I hook it up. I'm kind of "old school" simple. I go from the tape out to the "stereo line in" on my sound card. (Sound Blaster Live) I love the Chorus/Reverb effect #53 for vocals and it makes my Ovation Adamas 12 string sound AMAZING.

@Unplugged704 Use 2 mics - you'll connect each mic to its own channel. be sure to separate the mics by some distance to get an adequate stereo dimensional effect. You might also look to find a STEREO Mic (esentially 2 mics together) - you will still have to connect each channel (LEFT & RIGHT) to separate input MIC channels to get stereo. You'll also need to make sure you are routing the appropriate MIC to to the appropriate LEFT and RIGHT channel to get the effect.

Adapters don't affect the sound. Not if they're half way decent. Forget that. But there is such a thing as hardware disease. Those devices can fail. But almost never. That was a pretty darn good, informative video..thx... I have two questions 1. In a live situation, will you connect to your computer this way, while using the XLR outputs to your mains ? 2. On your mixer, you have 12 channels, but only 4 XLR inputs. Can you explain why and how to use the channels with no XLRs. Why do they combine the channels where there are no XLRs, and what are they used for. I'm trying to learn about mixers and have not found the answer to this question.Thx

Hi Bird, I had the same issue with my yamaha mg166 usb mxer. even though its a 16 channel mixer, all channels would be converted into one track while using the usb output on my mixer into cubase. i recommend getting an m audio delta 1010 soundcard, $200 new i picked mine up for $100 of craigslist. this will allow you to record and send each channel as a separate track into your recording software.
