u can try it, and see if it works, but in my experience , the atx and cpu is what powers the egpu device and then using the egpu , it then delivers power to the gpu output which will then power your gpu, i honestly haven't tried it that way but i believe you can try, it won't harm your gpu, it will either work or not, i simply just followed the manufacturer procedure , i didn't feel the need to modify it in anyway however for a 4090 or 7900xtx which have x3 or x4 9pins, i guess u would need to find a way to add more power , and, if that is the case, i would definitely try it your way, as splitting a already split 8pin is not providing true 150w- 300w per 8pin ...u can only try and see what happens, just be careful

Just recently tried to connect my Medion MultiMedia Laptop (with built in Intel Iris Xe graphics) to an RTX 3060 ti using the same concept and steps as you did. RTX and Laptop both react to another but the Laptop thinks it's a new device and wants me to enter my Microsoft recovery key. It accepts the key but Windows 11 won't boot up without an error sending me back. I tried some stuff in BIOS but that didn't help. Hotplugging doesn't work either of course. I'm using the extra M.2 SSD Slot of my Laptop. You know what causes that to happen? Like I said the Laptop is reacting to the GPU so I guess it's not a Hardware problem. And what about the drivers? I tried installing NVIDIA Geforce Experience but it says it can't install without an NVIDIA card. But if I install the drivers manually, will that get in conflict with my Intel graphic drivers or should they coexist just fine?
@MIKEYZVLOGZ2 ай бұрын
ok so if your getting the recovery key error something is causing it to think its a different boot drive, hence why its asking for a recovery key, however it should be able to just boot if you remove the egpu it boots fine?? as for drivers coexisting its fine cuz u have integrated graphics and external graphics now however is your laptop only integrated graphics>??? most newer laptops that are intel based have both integrated and external, very smart design, so it uses the integrated when not needing the extra juice from external gpu, and wen it does it auto switches back and forth to the external graphics, this is only with laptops that have a gpu as well, for i.e my old laptop u saw had both igpu and a 3050, and wen going into task manager you can clearly see them both coexist when i used the egpu i disable the integrated graphics so it only uses the egpu , that way i get full performance from the egpu i connected only which is what u want if you try and install the drivers manually and it says no hardware detected it mean its not reading the gpu you connected , if you watch a few other video some ppl had to use a extra dp connector to trick the gpu into thinking it has a cable connected so it can display graphics, but thats abit different to what i did, and i realy didn't have to do that it was pretty straight forward first thing u need to get past the recovery key issue i would start there now wen a laptop wouldn't boot with egpu i would l always try and use a fresh ssd and boot from that u have 2 nvme m.2 slots correct?? would u try a fresh install of windows?? just to see if it recognizes the new install? do not format your current ssd, as im sure u have games or work on there if u have a spare SSD even if its a 2.5" ssd just to try and it should work if your laptop is reacting to the gpu then its definitely workable, its a matter of getting past the recovery key issue, i would start with googling the fix for that and see what causes it, i haven't experienced that myself, and if i did i would google the error code and erro msg and go from there you'll be surprised what u can learn i hope this helps somewhat usually i gop off trial and error too , so having a pc in front of me will allow me to try certain things to get through it and sometimes thats the case im no professional and i will say that with no shame , however i have learnt alot over the years self taught , but i am in no means a pc expert, so pls dont crucify me if i cant figure it out right away, but i will always do my best to give the best advice i can keep me in the loop id love to hear how u turn out

@@MIKEYZVLOGZHey, thanks for your very kind response! 😊 My progress is a little delayed right now, since my dock broke (next time I'll one that comes closed up😅) but I've done some research and thinking. I'm not quite sure how exactly graphics work in my laptop. Usally I know CPUs have some graphic capabilities, I first noticed this when a 3D software let me choose between CPU and GPU render. And Intel Iris Xe apperently is bound to my 12th gen Intel i5, though I'm not sure in wich way it's really part of the CPU itself. For beeing a part of a CPU it almost feels a little too strong, beeing capable of running Jedi Fallen very decently with just adaptive quality activated and beeing able to interact with the USB 3.2 port to connect up to 3 4k Displays. And in device manager it shows up in it's own entry under "Graphic Cards", wich integrated CPU graphics usally don't do in my experience. So I guess Intel Iris Xe is like an inbetween or something? Comes with a CPU but seems to work similar to a separate GPU. Yes, I have two SSD Slots, however when I try to open the chassis I can remove the screws without problems but the cover will still not come off and to be honest I'm not sure it's even meant to. The Cover is very snuggly fittet to it's frame and since the second M.2 Slot is accessible from the outside and is built like it's own little closed off room, I'm really afraid I could break something if I try to force open the cover, maybe completley screwing up my second M.2 Slot in the process. So I can't access the primariy SSD slot and I need the secondary for the eGPU. Only thing I could do would to install Windows on an USB stick and boot from there, but to be honest I never downloaded and installed an OS manually before. Besides, my Laptop is still pretty new, aside from a few apps, three games and a few files there's not really something on it and I just recently had to reset it due to a problem I had with my touchpad, so could booting from a fresh windows even make a difference this early? Currently I'm researching BitLocker and maybe I could try to deactivate it. I don't let my Laptop lay around anywhere so I assume it won't be stolen anytime soon and the data on it should be safe either way. If I deactivate BitLocker, it will not ask me for my recovery key and maybe then it will accept a new PCIe device. Maybe. Like I said, my Laptop definitley knows that there's something connected via the SSD slot that's not an SSD so hopefully BitLocker is the only thing in my way. In BIOS I discovered the option VMD Controller. If enabled it also triggers BitLocker, even without eGPU connected. Maybe that can help as well.

Just to make things clear: A laptop uses Mobile GPUs, they are worse than desktop GPUs (learnt it the bad way). It can be just 20% up to 50% less efficient. Note: I am using statistics, since I can't afford to compare 😢 A lil' extra note: instead of using an external monitor, you might be able to upgrade your laptop screen. A 40 pin connection can support a 360 Hz screen; above that I don't know. A 30-pin connection can reach up to 120 Hz only (from my own knowledge.
