Really great info and very helpful to my setup which is a 1/5th scale short course MCD W5 Max (gas two stroke) I run on Astro in the UK and this low ride height really works and allows me to throw this 16kg truck into the corner without traction roll. Very few setup guides for 1/5th so good to use your 1/10th setup. Thank you.

Awesome videos! All of your videos are very well made! Love the way how you explained the "why" in making your adjustments, which I think is key. Need more vid like this where you can explain making setup changes throughout the race day as track condition changes and why you would choose to make certain changes for a certain condition. Also, another idea for video would be to make one on how you go about adjusting ball diffs and what feel you look for.

I love astro. Ours is more of a high pile, very spongey. We run our shock packages actually more like a clay setup. Tires, we run the schumacher blocks, very high block pattern as they cut down into the turf very well. But astro is crazy fun. But in my b5m video, that was a couple of days of testing to get it dialed in, but now...love it!

I've run a ball diff in a 2wd on astro in mod class (6.5T motor) and had it lasted a year of racing - more than 20 club meetings, even gunning hard all the time with a tight slipper and highest punch level on ESC. The trick is 1) run the diff tight. Do not try to use the resistance of the diff as a tuning option, run it as tight you can before the action starts getting too course (as it does when you over tighten) 2) Set your slipper so that it slips at about 20-30% less torque than the torque at which your diff slips. If you are wearing out a diff quickly I can pretty much GUARANTEE you that it is because your slipper is set to higher torque than the diff. Heres how to set the slipper properly: Take your gear cover off, lock the pinion stationary somehow e.g. wedge a bit foam rubber into where the pinion and spur meet. Loosen off the slipper almost completely. Hold one rear wheel stationary and rotate the other until slippage occurs and the slipper shaft rotates. Tighten up the slipper a bit and repeat. Eventually you will reach the point the slipper shaft is rotating slower or not at all during the slippage. This means the diff is now slipping and that the slipper torque is matching or slightly above the diff torque. Loosen off the slipper until the slipper shaft rotates enough that you are confident its accounting to all the slippage. Loosing it a tiny bit more :-). Job done, you now have a ball diff than will last almost indefinitely without rebuild so long as you don't mess with the slipper setting.

Very well produced vids, just bought a B6 to replace my B5m. Outdoor astroturf racing vs the laydown yokamo yz2s left me just ahead of the other b5ms just behind all the yz2s, very frustrating. We are now inside on a EOS carpet for winter so cross fingers.

Hi nice videos. I was wondering do use or recommend schelle aluminum drive shafts on the b6 on carpet or turf and which length would work better 65mm or 67mm. Thx
@RyanHarrisRC
@RyanHarrisRC 7 жыл бұрын
I suppose they would work for you, but I have no personal experience with them. I use stock axles or MIP puck axles. If stock, I use the 67mm with the aluminum hubs.
@NEEKx4x20
@NEEKx4x20 7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Harris what is the advantage of using 67mm instead of 65mm for 2wd stock buggy and what is the mip part# for the puck system that works for a gear diff on the b6
@RyanHarrisRC
@RyanHarrisRC 7 жыл бұрын
The hubs have different feel. I would use the aluminum hubs with the 67mm setup on a high bite track. But for low bite use the stock hubs and a 65mm setup. I'm not sure of the part numbers, but type in those key words to Amain.com and you'll find what you need!

Ryan I love your videos they are very helpful. suggestions for videos for newbies can you do some showing a visual for the terms and definitions you are using. I know what a traction roll is but a video showing a traction roll. or what the car was doing for you to change the droop or shock position. an actual video of the problem would help out tremendously like fiming your first run and showing what you are doing and explaining why. I come to you because you have great videos already and I like the way you present them.

Dear friend, I have a question and I need some help about B6D kit!!! I made everything as the manual describe and I noticed after the 1st run that my slipper clutch at full throttle (when the car is stopped and begin to run) make some noise, so I decide tho tight a little bit more the nut of the shaft but the noise still there... Is that a problem?

Worth trying cutting the outer edge of the pins on the reads off. Less side bite andd less likely to grip roll. I normally race on grass so it's a shock to the system racing with grip! Haha

Noob question: In the video you mentioned that you you needed to rebuild the ball diff after a day on astroturf. If Im running a stock 17.5 setup only on clay, how often should I be rebuilding my diff?
@RyanHarrisRC
@RyanHarrisRC 7 жыл бұрын
MrPageplayer depends on diff tightness and track grip. To play it safe I would pull it apart after 2 race weekends 👍

@@RyanHarrisRC See my comment above, for stock you should pretty much never need to rebuild a ball diff unless you are doing something seriously wrong

I think beginners should START with buggys instead of a trucks. WHAT IVE HEARD..and did.. "start with a truck , get good" move to a buggy.. I never got good with a truck. id watch/marshall the buggy race and say to myself ill never be able to "control" anything that fast.. I think once you get a race class buggy "set up right" of course" you'll be amazed at how"you can thread the needle" much better than you did your truck. and like riding a bike you just feel it. " my opinion. trucks are good. !! just feel like I spent too much time trying to win the big one when I shoulda been practicing my coordination the buggys got it handled its 2020.
