Thank you for this video. I've been working with unity for years now and every time I've tried to set up Git I would just get so lost. Yours was the first video I was able to follow from start to finish, and I'm committing to my main branch as I write this. Thanks again.

Nice tutorial! I'm a bit confused on how this actually saves space? You said it puts the large files "elsewhere" or "on the cloud" and points to that file within the actual repository using a pointer file. Where do these large files go? Are they not in the repository anymore? It sounds like this only saves space by not saving previously committed versions of the files, but what about files that are just large in general before they have any version history like uncompressed textures? Will this process work with Unity scene files? Or would it break connections within Unity like in the build manager or in code? Asking for a friend who may or may not have a 100mb Unity scene and git starts crying every time I - er... THEY commit... Cheers!
@retrocloudstudios2 жыл бұрын
It uses pointers, a concept like symbolic links in linux. The large files are stored in the cloud and when someone wants to pull your project, a pointer to those LFS files will help with that. Search up pointers in programming, they are fairly similar. And it will work with Unity Scene files. Oh oops, not you, your friend, my bad xD
@bfourney Жыл бұрын
Great video but then where are the large files stored? They stay on your computer or they’re on GitHub, just categorized differently? If so how much space does GitHub allow for these large files and do you have to pay?
