When you change any Brita filter, regardless of the model, the procedure is identical; remove and save for recycling.Check who takes care of it, in your area. Thoroughly wash the device, making sure you clean all the black gunk, from interior corners w/ a wooden toothpick or soft toothbrush

I change mine every month but going to leave it longer now as it still takes like filtered water even when there are no bars on battery.

THANK YOU ZRK - CLARITY at last! But one further question:- When using the filter-jug, does the filtered water-level need to be kept BELOW the filter - so the jug in fact pretty empty? That seems odd. But it would seem even odder - and illogical - if the ‘dirty’ filter is allowed to go on sitting in the water that it has ALREADY filtered! If you rapidly shake the cartridge enough while it's underwater, the air bubbles should escape, allowing it to sink.
