Professor Pincushion: I just want you to know how much I enjoy your videos. I just found you today. (10/26/2017) I am sewing a Halloween cape for my daughter and was a little bit stuck on a pattern section.) Sure enough, I search KZbin and your video was 3rd most relevant and 1st most inviting to me. And then, lo and behold, you even had a cape video too. I have been binging for 6 hours now solely on your playlist. Thank you. I have been sewing since I was 7 years old. I am not a professional sewer, however, there is almost nothing that I cannot sew. I have sewed outdoor porch awnings, dock seals, country western shirts and swimming pool covers and pillows in sewing factories for paid employment. I also worked as an alteration specialist in a dry cleaner. I sew quilts for fun and to give away. I also crochet. I tailor all of my own clothes due to my odd proportions and I also repair every family and friend's clothes. My point is this: I am appalled at the number of people who seem to think they know better than you, who try to correct you, etc. I have already suggested to the most abusive ones go begin their own KZbin channel if they think they are so knowledgeable. (Please forgive me, I was nice about it...but firm.) I am a strong believer in RESPECT and I'm very loyal. I admire you greatly for your ability to simply ignore the comments and not defend yourself. I love your nail polish and admire that you also do your own nails. WOW.Just the negative ADD comments on that alone are quite ridiculous. You keep on keeping on painting your beautiful nails and sewing and producing a great channel. I am writing to encourage YOU TODAY. I know that it takes 10 positive comments to override one negative comment but I bless you with 1,000 positive affirmations today to override every negative comment you have ever received. This is not to say that you do not get MANY MANY positive comments. You do. Many people, even men surprisely are very grateful for your work, suggestions, knowledge, tips, insight and skill. I thank you that you have continued to publish these videos in spite of mean/know it all spiteful people. It's fine for people to give a suggestion or comment or share ideas, but some of these individuals seem to have an air of extreme arrogance and venom behind their words that I find quite distasteful and really quite disturbing. I give you so much credit. I would LOVE to start a KZbin channel...about anything...but unless I made it "comments are disabled" I could not deal with the stress at this moment in my life. Sadly, I try to NOT READ THE COMMENTS MYSELF when I go on KZbin and so I can only imagine how it must feel to HAVE to read them on your channel. MANY MANY NEW PEOPLE AND NEW SEWERS AND MANY EXPERIENCED SEWERS LIKE MYSELF LOVE YOU. Please be blessed...and no matter what your beliefs...I have added you to my daily prayer list. Therefore, "I pray for you to be encouraged and to continue to come up with creative ideas and solutions. I pray that your family, as well as yourself, will be healthy and happy and that through this KZbin site that you will prosper in every way and that you will be blessed as you have blessed so many others." (You have worked very hard for it.) In the Name of My Lord, Jesus. Amen. Your new friend, Shelly. :) Thanks for reading and thanks today for helping me make my daughter her cape for Halloween 2017! :)

Making my first quilt for a friend who's having a baby :) I cut out quilting squares on white fabric and had everyone at her baby shower make a stencil on one (by ironing on freezer paper) then I used a fabric spray paint on them. Wonderful video. I would only add that it is usually suggested that each time you finish a cut and put down your rotary cutter, you close the blade for safety. I find that the 2 or 2 1/2" inch binding, folded in half, is easier to apply. But everyone has their own technique! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your tutorial, very clear and easy to follow. One comment about stitch-in-the-ditch quilting: especially when you press your seams open, it's a weaker method of attaching the quilt top to the batting and backing, than stitching *near* the ditch e.g. maybe 1/2" on either side of the seam. And, of course, the more dense your quilting stitching, the stronger the adhesion. Just a thought!

Yes, you can use flannel, even for your quilt squares. Polyester batting comes in different thicknesses. I would recommend not using the super thick batting until you're more comfortable. Instead of stitching in the ditch, I would recommend using the tying method, for attaching all three layers. Also, don't make the quilt too big. It takes longer, is harder to work with & we want to complete it. Take your time and don't be too hard on yourself. good luck and you can do it! :)

If I square my blocks then I usually don't have to worry about the quilt as a whole & it makes everything match better. You can cut a piece of cardstock the exact size of your block and compare to your finished blocks before stitching them to rows. For your needle, check to make sure you're using a new needle (maybe try quilting needle). Check tension and check bobbin. Make sure your thread on your bobbin is neat and I also know that brother machines have bobbin tension so check ur manual.

I recently saw a Tetris inspired quilt that I really wanted to make for my boyfriend. It looked "easy" enough since it was all squares but I knew there was more to it. This video was SUPER helpful and I am confident now that my first quilt won't be a total disaster!

OMG! Made my first quilt and I even went on the limb and put my granddaughters name on it. Will use this technique for my grandson's quilt also. Thanks Thanks. When I learn how to post pictures I will post one. I used the adhesive spray and pins scared the spray would not be enough.
