Just watched this video to sew a button on my pants. It doesn’t look a nice as the button your mom sewed onto your pants but I think it will work and it seems pretty solid for a first timer sewing a button on.

One thing I've seen done is wrapping the thread around behind the button a few times. This makes it extra secure but also helps separate the button from the material so there's room for the other side of the pants to go behind it.

That sounds like a good idea too but it could push out the button a little, making it harder to close out/button on.

​@@Jay_Ruleagreed on making the button stick out to much. I have a pair of pants that have a specially designed button that sticks out for that reason, but it sticks out so far it gets in the way. nice in that the other layer of pants isn't pinched, but it's to much of a good thing.

I also haven't washed them that many times. So it was definitely a surprise to me that the button came off, however thanks to this video I got the concept and was able to fix.

@@Jay_Rule Well, the buttons with the holes I know how to do now I guess. However the ones without the holes are a semi mystery still. I had got inspired a few months ago and wanted to repair a few pants that's only issue were missing buttons. However I bought all the materials and never put to use until today. Because these pants were actual pants that I used. I also didn't know how to sew. I had bought a bag full of replacement buttons and everything. I was planning on using something more "automatic" which is why I didn't tinker with the manual sewing kit I had until today but yeah. For regular buttons with holes in them I know what to do.
